This time, he was more than likely referencing Revelation chapters 8-10. Dexter realizes that the message is more important than the thrill of the kill. They also learn that there was semen in the last victim. Masuka found nothing through the fish and locusts. The number found is 1234. Louis thinks he may be counting up to 1260. Dexter tells her that he found nothing on the wings.
Dexter has decided to continue his own personal investigation on the Doomsday Killer. He realizes that the recent victim was in close proximity to a museum. He also learns that a patch job was on the wings. He goes over to the museum and finds Travis working. Dexter goes over to his house and looks around. He finds a book that Gellar wrote and a bible that has numbers cut out of it. Anderson calls him to a crime scene. It is simple, a murder/suicide. The owner comes in and asks how long the bodies will be there.
Dexter decides it is time to kill Travis and gets into his backseat to wait. He takes a rope and wraps it around his throat. Dexter essentially tells him that it is his time to pay for all of the murders and that is when Travis tells him that he is not who does the kills.
Quinn talks to Deb, because he would like the engagement ring back. He is understanding about it. She calls Jamie and asks to check for it if at all possible. Dexter runs into Brother Sam and invites him over to hang out with Harrison. Sam says there were overnight shots at the shop.
After some serious consideration, Travis decides to not meet up with Gellar. Later, Travis is reading the newspaper and sees Gellar in it. He tells Gellar about it and he decides to keep it a little low for a bit. Gellar asks that Travis acquire a drunk college student to be the Whore of Babylon. He doesn't because he gets caught, so Gellar makes him hit a woman with his car.
Dexter has a chance to hang out with Brother Sam for a bit. They talk about how he ended up in homicide. They talk about his mother and what little he remembers about her. He tells him that all it takes is a little bit of light to keep the darkness at bay. They bond and even talk about watching his mother being heinously murdered. Brother Sam tells him that despite everything, there is always light. For Dexter, his light is his son. He brings Harrison a stuffed lamb.
Quinn and Batista are busy doing an official investigation and head to the college where Gellar used to work. They talk to his old assistant Clarissa, who is now a professor there. She also used to be his lover. She thinks that Gellar couldn't do anything to hurt anyone. She and Quinn hit it off pretty well and get a little wasted together. He gets some out of the deal and the next morning, there is a box with all of Gellar's stuff she could find sitting in her house. There is a book in there that has artwork of the murders so far. She was one of a long list of TA's that slept with him.
Deb is at Dexter's going over some crime scene photos from work. She's left them in plain view of Harrison and his babysitter is fuming over it. They get into an argument over it and Deb doesn't take it very well. She decides it is time to go deal with her post-shooting therapy. She has a long discussion with the woman who also tells her she isn't crazy. They talk about Dexter and how stoic he tends to be. This is where she realizes she needs to move out. She needs her own space. She also talks about how overwhelmed she is with work.
Ryan is gone now and Masuka needs an intern. He hires Louis who seems to be a total tech geek capable of a lot. He tries to find the hand, but fails. However, he make sure that there is no record of it ever being sold. He even teaches him how to wipe his computer of porn and gave him a good ol' boost in his credit rating.
Late that night, Brother Sam is gunned down in his shop.
