The Tenth Doctor [Series 2-4], played by David Tennant (1)
The Tenth Doctor carries on as seemingly the last surviving Time Lord in the universe. Having regenerated into a new body after the sacrifice made by the Ninth Doctor, he and Rose continue their journeys through time, rectifying problems they find on the way. The Doctor becomes very close to Rose over the course of their adventures and is extremely upset when she is left trapped in an alternate universe. In the first episode of Series 3, he meets Martha Jones and she becomes his new companion. They travel together until the Master attempts to conquer the Earth. Martha decides to remain on Earth and the Doctor finds himself traveling alone rather than take on another companion. However, after a return to Earth he runs into Donna Noble, who has been seeking her out after her one Christmas adventure. After promising that she has no romantic interest in him, the Doctor agrees to take her on as a companion. He also has run into Martha and the three of them travel together.
This incarnation of the Doctor has cited his prior Fifth body as his favorite, and has many of his mannerisms. He wears spectacles and trainers, and has a physical sense of youthfulness at odds with his many centuries of existence. The Tenth Doctor is often whimsical and tends to babble on, but can turn deadly serious when faced with major threats. He is capable of ruthlessly standing by and letting an opponent die ("The Runaway Bride"), although this attitude has mellowed somewhat ("Partners in Crime"). Perhaps due to the destruction of his own people in the Time Wars, he has become much closer to his companions, displaying the occasional romantic feelings. Despite his continuing disdain for the military (UNIT, in "The Sontaran Stratagem") and authority figures in general, he has been known to cite intergalactic law and sometimes comes across as a defender of the status quo ("Partners in Crime").
