| General Staal: The planet is going nuclear! I admire them. The bravery of idiots is bravery nonetheless. | General Staal: There was no planetfall. Castor 36, indeed. We only needed you for the installation of the ATMOS system.
Luke Rattigan: No, but I'm on your side. I did everything you wanted! And it's not ATMOS system, that's a tautology, it's just ATMOS!
General Staal: Execute him! | Donna: What's happened, where are you?
The Doctor: Still on Earth, but don't worry. I've got my secret weapon.
Donna: What's that?
The Doctor: You. | Colonel Mace: Attention all troops! The Sontarans might think of us as primitive, as does every passing species with an axe to grind. They make a mockery of our weapons, our soldiers, our ideals. But no more. From this point on, it stops. From this point on, the people of Earth fight back and we show them. We show the warriors of Sontar what the human race can do. |

| When the Doctor switches the channel on General Staal, the cartoon showing is Tommy Zoom. The villainous magician is Polluto: the boy in the audience is the main character, Tommy, along with his dog Daniel. |

| The Doctor: Are you my mummy?
The Doctor is mimicking the antagonist from the earlier episode "The Empty Child". In this episode, a small child who has been mutated via nanobots to have a gas mask surgically planted on to his face searches for his mother, repeatedly asking "Are you my mummy?" | Colonel Mace mentions that "Sir Alastair" is trapped in Peru. Alastair is Brigadier Alastair Lethbridge-Stewart, who commanded the English branch during the Doctor's exile to Earth in his third incarnation. His last appearance was in the original series episode Battlefield. | The Doctor mentions the Sontarans' mortal enemies, the Rutans. The Rutans are a jellyfish-like race that can discharge electricity and have limited shapeshifting ability. They appeared in the original series for the first and last time in the 4th Doctor episode "The Horror of Fang Rock." | The Doctor's severed hand can be briefly seen in a jar in the TARDIS as the doors close and trap the Doctor, Donna, and Martha. |
