Episode discussion for: 05x01 | The Eleventh Hour (Apr 03, 2010)

I have to say that Matt Smith's first episode as The Doctor was fantastic. I was worried that David Tennant's departure was going to be a hard hole to fill but Matt was brilliant.

I'm not crazy about all of the changes they made: The theme music, the opening sequence, the Tardis. I suppose I'll get used t some of it, but all of these changes while we're trying to get used to a new Doctor! It's a lot.

Yeah there was a lot of changes. I've always found in the past it's helpful to have a popular companion already in place before the Doctor changes as it helps deal with the transition period.

Yeah, that would have helped. BTW, tis episode didn't premier on BBC America until last night, the 17th. So we in the US will always be a little behind you in responding to the episodes. It doesn't mean we don't care!

Only thing that grates on me is the "let's be hip" DW in the shape of the tardis - tacky.

The opening sequence could do with eliminating the DW, morphing into the tardis helps but when I first saw it I didn't really connect the initials - get rid of it please, BBC!
An excellent first episode with the 'new' doctor but using the same motif as Girl In The Fireplace, while important to the story did irritate slightly. And the BBC injects a lot more humour with the Kiss-a-gram girl.

I tried finding the "let's be hip" thing, but I couldn't find it. It my have been in one of the many sequences that they cut when they reran it. Let's see, they cut most of his experimenting with food(didn't like that part anyway), they cut out Amelia packing and waiting with her suitcase, they cut The Doctor's proofs of his brilliance on the computer, and they cut all his stuff with his sonic screwdriver in the town square before the screwdriver got fried. This is just what i noticed, I wonder what else they cut that I didn't notice. I totally didn't mind the food thing being cut, but I think the others were important, especially the way Amelia raced to pack and then sat on her suitcase out in the yard.
