Subject: • David Tennant Confirms Departure From Doctor Who
David Tennant has announced that he is to step down from the role of The Doctor when the five 2008/ 2009 DW television specials finish production. The actor confirmed his departure after receiving a National Television Award. Tennant, who could not be there in person, addressed the audience via sattelite from a production of "Hamlet"

A later interview with Tennant conducted by the BBC revealed that had had always made it an intention to depart after three years, and to leave at the height of his popularity in the role.

Tennant's departure will completly close the door on the Russel T Davies era of the series, with Davies departing as producer and writer along with Julie Gardner and Phil Collinson. Tennant would have been the last remnant of that era had he elected to stay.

The new Doctor has yet to be confirmed

Tennant is definitely my favourite Doctor of all time.

There's no "dark" side to his Doctor though. The closest I've seen was the one where he trapped part of his soul into the watch and later tortured that family of immortals for eternity.
