The Third Doctor [1970-1974], played by Jon Pertwee
The third incarnation of the Doctor. This version of the Doctor was above all else an athletic man of action, a master of Venusian Aikido, and a skilled pilot of all types of vehicles. He could be counted on to use any number of technological devices to stop his opponents, often creating such devices out of odds and ends. Ironically because of his fondness for action, during this period he was confined to Earth during much of his incarnation that chafed to no end. Despite his aristocratic bearing and clothing, this Doctor had no fondness for the rich and powerful, or any sort of authority figure. He primarily worked with UNIT to gain access to their scientific resources so he could escape his exile. However, even after he did so he returned to Earth whenever his assistance was needed. With his female companions he was a father figure, taking an avuncular pride in showing them the galaxy. Like his predecessors, he could go into childish sulks when he didn't get the way, which was often during his exile. His companions in order were Liz Shaw, Jo Grant, and Sarah Jane Smith, but he also receive the assistance of UNIT officers Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, Captain Mike Yates, and Sergeant Benton. |
