Great show. Well conceived, well executed.Rating: 2 likes, 2 dislikes
This show is exactly what SF is supposed to be -- not "whiz bang", "death rays" and "rokkit ships" -- it's about looking at something over the horizon and considering the implications of that thing on humans and humanity.

The show may not last long, indeed, it may only last through 12 broadcast eps as currently appears, but the show has remarkable potential, and deserves a much better chance than it's likely to get (much like Joss Whedon's other series, Firefly).

Like most Whedon series, it starts out slow, and doesn't hit an obviously stead stride right out of the box, and this, given the impatience of modern TV executives, may be its undoing.

But if you give it a chance -- 6 or 7 eps -- it'll probably pique your interest, and, by the end, leave you ticked off that it may not have gotten the chance it really deserved.

I will state that episode 10, "Haunted", is the kicker, to me -- while its central plot device isn't startling to a devoted SF fan, it does show that Whedon HAS fully thought out the implications of the technological innovation at the heart of the show, and sees some of its wider ramifications. And that kind of understanding is what differentiates mediocre SF from great SF.

This show could be great SF. If only it gets a chance.
