Doug originated from the unpublished book by Jim Jinkins and Joe Aaron titled Doug's Got a New Pair of Shoes.
Nickelodeon's Doug
Nick's Doug was a series about humble 12 year old
Doug Funnie, who has a wild imagination. He's usually writing in his journal about his day and even narrates the story for us. He has a dog, named
Porkchop, who can walk on his hind legs, and is extremely smart. Doug also has a best friend named
Masquito "Skeeter" Valentine, who's a noise-making, genius (though you wouldn't notice if you met him). Doug's crush is a girl named
Patti Mayonaise, who is a country, down-to-earth type of girl. He is regularly picked on by
Roger Klotz, who usually picks on everyone.
Judy is Doug's very odd sister. She's into musicals, Shakespeare, and art. Doug regularly draws a comic book about a character named
Quailman, who is based off of Doug. Quailman is usually drawn to aid Doug in solving problems in his life that are too tough for him to handle. Some of the villains Quailman encounter inlude
Dr. Klotzoid,
Klotzenstein, etc. (most are based off of Roger Klotz).
Brand Spanking New! Doug / Disney's Doug
In
Brand Spanking New! Doug (called
Disney's Doug for syndication), things have changed quite a bit, starting with character styles. But that's not it. Doug is 13 and attendes Beebe Bluff Middle School who was named after his spoiled rich friend Beebe. Roger is still a bully, though very rich now, Tippi Dink, My. Dink's wife is now Mayor, leaving Mayor White as the school Principal. Doug's other friend Connie has went from chubby to thin, The Beets, Doug's favorite band of all-time has broken up, and Doug gets a baby sister named Cleopatra "Dirtbike" Funnie. There's more changes though. At least Doug and Skeeter are still best friends, Patti is still the object of Doug's desire, Quailman is still Doug's favorite hero even getting his own episodes, and the plots are similar to Nickelodeon's.

After the whole show ended, a feature movie called
Doug's Ist Movie, was released in 1999. The movie was about Doug and Skeeter finding the monster of Lucky Duck Lake, and wanting to exploit it, but knowing it would be the wrong thing to do...

While no current plans for
Doug returning to Nickelodeon or any of its affiliates have been scheduled, but a future DVD release is not out of the question states Viacom. If so it would most likely be part of the
