Ellie Laird, played by Mircea Monroe
Ellie has one reason, and one reason only, for joining The Race - keeping her husband, Rob, away from the army. Ellie is well aware that her husband's unit has been shipped back to Iraq, but keeps this knowledge from him (deleting phone messages, destroying letters). She hopes that if they win The Race, the money will allow them to start anew, somewhere far away from the US.
Unfortunately for Ellie, Rob soon becomes aware of his AWOL status, and confronts her - while she tries the waterworks-angle, telling him that she just wants him alive, he forces her hand by throwing their Race phone out of the car - effectively cutting them off from The Race. Distraught, Ellie realises her husband is determined to face the punishment for going AWOL, rather than stay in The Race with her, |
