Leigh Barnthouse, played by Rochelle Aytes
A Hurricane Katrina survivor, Leigh is an unknown quantity in The Race. Having met Ivy and Susan during the hurricane, the decision to do The Race together has an adverse affect on their friendship when she and Susan realise what Ivy is made of, ethically and morally speaking. After Ivy jumps ship, to pair up with Wendy, Leigh and Susan are left stranded with shot-out tires, seemingly out of The Race for good.
Luckily for them, Mr Bright calls them with the location of the checkpoint, and when Susan and Leigh get back on their feet they head straight there. Unfortunately, he has only asked them there so that they can return the Race phone - they're out. While Leigh is resigned to the fact and just wants to go home, Susan is adamant they will win - eventually she coerces Leigh to her point of view when they find the Race phone ditched by Rob & Ellie; Leigh is even the one to figure out the location of the next checkpoint.
But this good news doesn't last long - The girls are run off the road by a mysterious black monster truck (possibly sent by The Sponsors, possibly an outside force), and subsequently pummelled into by the truck. Upon awakening in the wreckage, Leigh heads over to Susan - only to find her dying. Determined to finish The Race as vengeance for her dead friend, Leigh heads back out onto the roads, heading for the next checkpoint. |
