The original pilot, starring Ivan Sergei in the role of Alex Tully alongside Kristin Lehman and Melanie Lynskey, was not actually picked up by FOX. It was only until they realised a need for another hour-long show that they revisited the project, adding Tim Minear as a show-runner and recasting the majority of roles (a mixture of unavailability, due to the late pickup, and the refocusing of the show).
