Kerry Weaver thinks she has finally discovered her natural birth mother-- alone and dying in a boarding home. Dr. Greene aggressively continues to work on Mobalage's behalf with the deportation board, but runs into a wall when he tries to get Mobalage to recall his torture nightmare. Lucy starts her psychiatric ward rotation, but has trouble getting control of her disturbed charges. Dr. Carter is angered when he learns that a poisoned 3-year-old has ingested cocaine that the child found in his father's bedroom, and he also disturbed to discover that an infant he thought was a victim of abuse by his mother, is actually suffering from a deadly bone disease. Meanwhile, as Hathaway struggles with a decision in her personal life, she has to deal with two violent cases at the hospital -- a gay man who is a victim of domestic abuse; and a schizophrenic street woman, Coco, who has recently given birth in the streets.
