Change happens at County General. Dr. Susan Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) moves to Arizona to follow her sister to make sure that she doesn't screw up again. Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) and Dr. Kerry Weaver (Laura Innes) continue to butt heads to try and keep the ER under control. Dr. John Carter (Noah Wyle) continues working with Dr. Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle), while Dr. Doug Ross (George Clooney) tries to rekindle a relationship with Nurse Carol Hathaway (Juliana Carol Hathaway). Dr. Benton also tries to maintain a civil relationship with P.A. Jeanie Boulet (Gloria Reuben).

Notable guest stars include Abraham Benrubi, Omar Epps, Ving Rhames, Jorja Fox, Kirsten Dunst, and William H. Macy.
