Everything is going wrong for Gary Hobson -- he's out of work and his wife wants a divorce. After being thrown out by his wife, Gary moves into the Blackstone hotel where he begins to get the paper a day early. Thinking it may be a fluke, Gary heads out, to the tracks, to test is findings. When he wins $10,000, he gives it to a friend so she can afford a seeing eye dog. Though pressured to use the paper in a get-rich scheme, Gary is able to stop a bank robbery, but quickly decides he doesn't want the burden of knowing what tomorrow will bring today.

The paper predicts two separate accidents, a little girl being a victim of hit and run; and a plane crash, killing hundreds. But when Gary tries to get the girl to the hospital quickly, he learns that the paper won't let him off that easy. It now predicts that the girl will become a victim of hospital neglect, so Gary has to choose between the life of a small girl and the hundreds of lives on board the plane.

Gary's only got one problem - he's falling in love with the paper's star reporter, Meridith Carson, and she just can't wait to look at his paper.

Gary has to choose whether or not he wants to save the man who's caused him so much trouble.

Meanwhile, Chuck's thrown in jail with a man that looks like and believes he's Santa Claus, and he want's Chuck to help him escape so he can fulfil his Christmas obligations.

All that is put on hold, though, when Gary is framed for the death of Chicago Sun-Times editor Harry Hawkes, which puts Gary on the run

But when Masterson's past catches up to him, Gary has to save Bat, before he kills the man he thinks killed his partner 10 years ago.
17 :01x17 - The Jury

However, after a glance at the paper, Gary's vote is swayed and it becomes his job to expose an elaborate cover-up.

As Gary tries to save Earl's life when a building collapses on him, he reads that Cliff is going to succumb to a heart attack. Torn between leaving Earl alone to die while he saves an ungrateful human being, Gary contemplates a decision that could ultimately tie the two men's lives together.
