(Watson mentions that his potential sponsor works on the Florida Stock Exchange.)
Sherlock: Good thinking Watson. You know how much I enjoy bankers. Glad to see you've been paying attention over the last few weeks.
Watson: Actually he's an officer with the SCC so he spends his days keeping bankers in line.
(Sherlock and Watson watch Bell interrogate their first suspect.)
Sherlock: Bomb building is a dangerous venture. It requires patience, precision, attention to detail. Mr. Jacobs' wrist watch is nine minutes slow and his fly is three quarters down. He doesn't scream detail oriented.
Watson: Ted Kaczynski looked like a hobo puked on another hobo. He managed to hurt plenty of people.
Sherlock: Point taken.
(Alfredo speaks at the meeting)
Alfredo: I started boosting cars when I was fourteen. By the time I turned eighteen I was the best there is. Ain't a car in this city I can't steal.
Sherlock: (Alfredo talking in the background) Him.
Alfredo: I had extra cash... bored... I turned to drugs.
Sherlock: I want him to be my sponsor.
(Sherlock tries to work)
Vanowen: I used to have my habit under control, back when the papers only issued one a day. But ever since they put the last fifteen years on their archive I'm a lost cause. It's a miracle I get any work done at all.
Sherlock: (after looking frustrated trying to think) You want sex. I'm not adverse, Mrs. Vanowen I'm just busy. Perhaps we could set an appointment. You're flirting, this crossword talk. You find me attractive. The feeling is mutual mostly. (She listens to him talk) The musculature of your legs and shoulers show a certain elasticity I find quite tantalizing. I must warn you however that a relationship between us could never go beyond physical. (She keeps listening, not moving) No offense to you, of course, it's just not my way.
Watson: Hey...Am I interupting?
Vanowen: Nope. Not even a little.
(Sherlock explains his "theory")
Watson: Are you sure?
Sherlock: Fairly sure.
(Scene moves to where Sherlock had already found the corpse)
(Alfredo brings a new car's security system to Sherlock for a challenge.)
Sherlock: The truth is, Alfredo, that I'm already quite adept at defeating security systems.
Alfredo: This stuff's not even on the market yet. So really, how would you know if you could beat it?
(Sherlock decides whether or not to go check out the "Puzzle" that Alfredo has brought him, while Watson urges him to consider sponsorship)
Watson: One way or the other I'm going to be out of your life in a few weeks. Maybe you're dreading that day, maybe you're counting the seconds. Either way I'm going to make sure that you're ready when the time comes. I promise.
In the beginning of the episode when Watson is trying to talk to him, Sherlock quotes something on the television. What he's quoting is from, "The Invisible Man" (1933).
When Sherlock and Watson are in the diner waiting for his possible sponsor, he comments on the idea that she is bringing him a banker. In Season 1 Episode 4, 'Rat Race'
, Sherlock amused himself by mocking a group of bankers while helping them figure out who was killing them. He went as far as charging twelve times his normal rate, which he had to make up afterward, because normally he works for free.
