Eli meets with Dr. Rajapaska who confirms his pre-op test is okay and he's ready for surgery. The doctor advises that Eli get a living will made out, given how dangerous the surgery is. Afterward, Eli takes a taxi but en route he has a vision of being on a different car, across the city on the Golden Gate Bridge. There's a man in the car talking to his girlfriend on the cell phone, a woman who has the nickname "Macaroni." As the radio announces it's 5:13 p.m. three days in the future, the bridge is shaken by an earthquake and starts to collapse.
Coming out of his vision, Eli goes to see Dr. Chen, who suggests that he tell someone. However, Eli doesn't think anyone will believe him, since even he doesn't believe it.
At WPK, Jordan comes in to see Marci in her new office. He knows that she's trying to get the board to vote to remove him. She explains that since she can't fire Eli because of the contract Jordan was responsible for, and their clients are leaving because of Eli's behavior, she's firing Jordan instead.
Matt tells Taylor that he managed to get the reservation at the restaurant by signing them on as a client. Eli comes in and asks to meet with Matt later, but seems reluctant to talk in front of Taylor. Eli then talks to Patti who has bought him an engagement gift for Maggie. He gives the present--a picture frame--to her and congratulates her on the engagement. It turns out that her fiancé Scott is moving to San Francisco to be with her.
Chen calls Eli and tells him to tune to the news: scientist Daniel Foote is protesting on the steps of City Hall and saying there'll be an earthquake in three days. They go to see Foote who has converted his house into a giant earthquake detector. Eli is skeptical since Foote has made unsuccessful predictions five times in the past. However, Foote has determined the epicenter of the quake is Silver Terrace, and Eli files as the plaintiff to get the city to shut down the Golden Gate Bridge on the day of the earthquake.
Taylor discovers what Marci is attempting and goes to see her father, who isn't concerned. She's furious that Eli is endangering her father's position, and further enraged when Marci tells them that Eli is suing the city.
Eli asks Maggie to second-chair him, but she reveals that Marci comes in and announces that she has already signed Maggie as second-chair: WPK is defending the city against Eli's suit. As Marci leaves, Eli spots the picture frame and Maggie's photo of Scott: it's the man who was driving on the bridge when the earthquake hit.
Eli meets with Matt and explains he needs a living will, and he wants an unsympathetic person to help set it up. He then goes into court and has Foote testify. Unfortunately, despite his credentials he has no support in the scientific community for his crackpot theories. Further, Marci notes that Foote's wife Moira left him three years ago after a failed prediction.
Taylor confronts Eli and tells him that her father's job is in jeopardy, and Eli goes to Jordan to try and back out of the case. Jordan refuses to hear of it, insisting that Eli stand by his principles. When he runs into Maggie, Eli warns her that Marci didn't pick her for her talents, but because she wants someone with insight into Eli's legal skills. Maggie doesn't believe him and walks off, furious.
Eli calls Foote's wife Moira to the stand and she testifies that she loved her husband and never doubted his abilities, but left him because his work was more important then she was.
Matt goes on his dinner with Taylor but when she complains about Eli's behavior, he suggests she might go easier on her without explaining why (under client confidentiality). He manages to turn it into a sexual innuendo and Taylor says he's blown his one chance to get together with her.
That night, Maggie and Marci are working on the case in the office and Marci tries to sugarcoat her reputation. She even admits to having slept with Jordan in the past. However, Marci then asks about Eli and Maggie tries to defend him, noting he helped the firm against Silver Terrace. However, Marci figures out that Eli was trying to help the residents by getting them out of the area before the earthquake and forces Maggie to explain what happened. The next day, she calls Maggie to the stand as a hostile rebuttal witness. Maggie is forced to testify under oath that Eli claimed to have a vision about an earthquake. The judge dismisses the case and Foote is furious that Eli tried to use him. Maggie apologizes to Eli, who pleads with her to keep Scott off the bridge. Even the fact that he knows the nickname Scott calls her from his vision doesn't seem to convince her. As Maggie leaves, the Mayor's assistant asks for Eli and Foote to meet with him.
Marci has called a meeting of the WPK board and calls for a vote to fire Jordan. Jordan defends his decisions concerning Eli, saying that every firm and every place needs an Eli Stone to remind them of the humanity of their business.
Eli and Foote meet with Miller who says that the Mayor is convinced of their cause, and has agreed to close the bridge.
Eli and Matt meet with Taylor and Patti, and they break the news to Taylor that Eli is going in for an operation that has a 50/50 chance of leaving him a vegetable. He wants them to act as witnesses as he signs the document. Once he's done, he asks them to go to Golden Gate Park, the safest part of the city in case of an earthquake. He then goes out into the main office, stands on a table, and make a speech saying that even though everyone thinks he's crazy, and as lawyers they deal in fact, this one time they need to have faith in him and leave the building before the earthquake hits. Patti and Taylor leave with him, while Jordan and Marci watch.
At the board meeting, the vote goes against Jordan. He insists he doesn't want to work at a firm with such an attitude and prepares to leave, but an earthquake shakes the building right on schedule. Satisfied, Jordan calls for a revote. In Golden Gate Bridge, Maggie and Scott meet with Eli: she believed him. As they watch, the Golden Gate Bridge collapses into San Francisco Bay.
