Eli finds himself in the shower, naked... and a naked Maggie comes in. Eli panics but realizes she doesn't seem to find anything unusual about the situation. Looking in a mirror, Eli sees that he's her fiancé, Scott Colby. After he snaps out of the vision, Eli goes to see Frank. Eli thinks the vision is meant to help him stop Maggie from going to Posner & Klein.
Jordan and Martin Posner both meet with the associates to get them to go with them. Keith stays with Jordan, and Posner figures it's a given that Matt will go with P&K. Matt admits he isn't so sure... until Posner offers him a full partnership. Meanwhile, Eli approaches Maggie and hesitantly sounds her out as to whether she's staying or going. Maggie assures him she has no intention of going with P&K.
Taylor secretly approaches Eli and asks him to convince Matt to stay and show him the awards of public service law. Eli doesn’t have much luck and Matt isn't fooled, but Eli asks him to keep his knowledge a secret for Taylor's benefit. He convinces Matt to wait a week and get P&K to increase their offer. Meanwhile, Eli promises to find Matt an interesting case. Meanwhile, Maggie meets with Posner who offers her the position of senior associate and head of the pro bono division, as well as a doubling in salary. When she hesitates, Posner offers to make a $20,000 donation to an eco-preservation league to seal the deal.
Eli goes to the "wackadoo" of people who have written to him since the news got out about his visions. None of the cases interest Matt, or even sound particularly sane. They're interrupted when Will Sonneborn comes in and asks Eli to represent his girlfrend Sana... who is married to another man. She's been arrested by Homeland Security and needs a lawyer.
Patti talks to the staff to convince them to stay. However, they've been informed Eli and Jordan have put a wage freeze on their salaries. Patti says she'll do what she can to get it lifted.
Eli and Matt meet with Sana and her husband, Carter Jameson. The couple explain that Sana fraudulently married Carter to get her green card, and Carter is gay. When Homeland Security found out, they pressed charges against Carter and prepared to deport Sana back to Pakistan. However, Will explains that Sana is in an arranged Pakistani marriage and if she goes back, her father will have her killed.
Scott stops by the firm to talk to Maggie about their engagement party. Eli overhears him discussing Posner's offer and confronts her. Maggie admits she told Posner she'd think about it and he offers to match P&K's offer.
Jordan and Taylor are working out the firm's financing and Taylor is increasingly irritable. Noting something is wrong, Jordan offers his support. Eli comes in to say they need to increase Maggie's salary, but Jordan notes they can't afford it with all the expenses, but says it's Eli's call. Eli goes back to Maggie and explains that they can't increase her salary, but Maggie says she has no intention of leaving.
Sana testifies in court before Judge Kettleman, saying that since she is impure for having slept with Will, her father will have to have her killed to restore his honor. Catherine Booker, the government attorney, says that honor killings in Pakistan have been outlawed but Sana says they still exist and men are in charge of enforcing the laws. However, she's forced to admit under oath that she has no evidence that her father has threatened her, and in fact supported her coming to the U.S. to study. The fact that she lied to get a green card also stands against her, and even Matt wonders if she's lying about the honor killings.
Back at the office, Patti tells Eli that she's convinced 22 staff members to stay. However, Eli says he can't do anything about the wage freeze and they can't afford to pay all 22 even at their current wage, given the downsizing of staff. Patti is furious at him, saying that's the sane mentality that Posner and Klein have.
Eli and Matt find Sana's cousin Amir. He is aware of his uncle's attitude but is reluctant to despoil his honor by providing letters that support Sana's testimony. Eli manages to convince him to help save Sana's life and Matt admits that he's impressed by Eli's determination and commitment. However, as they leave Eli has a new vision of himself as Scott, preparing to take a shower. The woman in the shower invites him in... but it's a different woman, Candace Bonneville. Eli says he has to go and she says that it's the fourth time he's tried to break up with her. She tells him to get in so they can be done and she can meet with her husband.
Eli and Matt take the letter from Sana's father to Booker. She's unimpressed, causing even Matt to note her lack of compassion. Booker believes she can win the case but finally offers a deal: they'll drop the charges against Carter if Sana drops the case and returns to Pakistan. They take the deal to Sana and advise her not to take it, but Sana cares for Carter and doesn't want to see him go to jail.
That night, Maggie's engagement party doesn't go particularly well as most of the staff are unable to attend because of the shake-up at the firm. Taylor and Matt dance and she notes that he's been distracted by the case. Even Matt is surprised at how involved he's become. He's figured that Taylor put Eli up to getting him to stay and admits that if Taylor had asked him to stay, he couldn't have turned her down. Thinking about his feelings for her, he has an idea about helping Sana. Meanwhile, Maggie is busy getting drunk and tells Eli that she and Scott argued over the fact she's staying with Jordan. She thinks Scott is concerned about her and Eli prepares to tell her the truth.
Jordan offers Taylor some ementaler, and when she takes it he realizes she's pregnant (her mother had the same craving for cheese when she was pregnant). She admits she doesn't see herself as a mother and is considering aborting the baby. Jordan tells her that no matter what she decides, he'll be there for her. Meanwhile, Eli stumbles over explaining that he saw Maggie naked in the shower and Scott comes over and tells him to back off. As Maggie steps away, Eli tells Scott he knows about his affair. Scott slugs him and Eli decks him, telling Scott to tell Maggie. A furious Maggie tells Eli to leave.
Eli and Matt meet with Sana and Matt explains that both men need her. She still wants to do the right thing to keep Carter out of jail but Matt brings Carter in and tells Sana to explain it to him face-to-face. Based on his own feelings for Taylor, Matt explains how they'll feel if she leaves and the guilt they'll go through. Sana refuses to drop the case and in court, Matt gives a stirring speech saying that Sana was willing to die rather then let Carter go to jail, demonstrating true love. The judge rules in Sana's favor, but Booker informs Eli and Matt that she'll be pushing for the maximum sentence for Carter and expediting matters with her boss... Candace Bonneville.
Eli goes to see Maggie and apologizes for the fight. She tells him that she's learned about the affair and the wedding is off. However, she notes that she sympathizes with Scott: her true feelings are for Eli and Scott proposed to her to get her to focus on him . Eli doesn't feel the same way toward her and she realizes that, and understands. She also knows that Scott was having the affair with Candace, which Eli notes. Maggie starts packing and Eli realizes she's going with Posner & Klein. Maggie explains that for once she's going to put herself first, and she can't work with Eli given her feelings for him.
Eli goes to see Candace at Homeland Security and suggests that she follow precedent and let Carter go without serving jail time. She refuses, saying she trusts Booker's judgment... until Eli points out he knows about the affair. He doesn't quiet blackmail her, but he suggests she reconsider the case and she agrees to community service.
Maggie goes to Posner and sets down her own terms. When he balks, she points out that P&K are trying to hire her to mess up Eli. Impressed, Posner agrees to her terms.
Eli lets Matt know about the new arrangement and Matt is pleased. However, he's decided to go with P&K. Matt can't handle the constant stress of getting so involved in cases, even though he admires Eli's ability to do so. He goes to see Taylor and tells her about his decision, but assures her it doesn't change things between them. They make plans for dinner, but Taylor doesn't tell him about her pregnancy.
Eli goes to Patti and says that they're going to eliminate the wage freeze and will take on everyone else they can, despite Posner's offer. Patti assures him that the staff will stay with Jordan and Eli.
Eli gets out the whackadoodle file and takes it to Jordan so they can find some new clients. Jordan is surveying the nearly empty firm that he helped built and offers Eli whatever office he wants. Eli says that he'll stay in the library: he's become used to it. They prepare to go work but first Jordan shakes hands with Eli and welcomes him as his new partner.
