Eli and Frank go to a movie, although Frank suggests that Eli go on a blind date with one of his clients, who is receiving acupuncture treatment to help her stop smoking. Eli isn't comfortable with the idea. As the movie starts, Eli has a vision of Patti on-screen, singing
Help by the Beatles. He finds himself in the movie with her and she stops singing to say that "She's innocent." Eli tries to get more information but finds himself back in the audience, standing up as the other patrons yell at him.
The next day, Eli calls Patti and leaves a voice mail saying he thought she needed his help. He gets into the law firm and sees her in his office closing the blinds as she talks to someone. She comes out and tells Eli she's taking a personal day to help her daughter: Angela has been arrested. Eli snags Keith and insists that they accompany her.
Taylor comes to see a distracted Jordan and remind him that he missed a meeting. She says she covered for him and he notes he has a charity and luncheon and asks if she wants to come. She gives it a pass, explaining that she and Matt are going to a pediatrician to see their baby for the first time.
Eli, Keith, and Patti arrive in court as Angela is charged on six counts of stealing a synthetic opiate from the med school with intent do distribute. When they're unable to get her released on her own recognizance, Eli puts up the bail money while insisting that Angela is innocent. Afterward, she insists that she's innocent. Patti and Keith have their doubts but Eli, going by his vision, stands by her.
Matt and Taylor arrive at the pediatrician's office. A few awkward moments ensue as they stumble over how to explain Matt is there. The doctor does the sonogram and confirms that the baby is fine.
At Posner & Klein, partner Paul Rollins tells Maggie to help out their client, Ashley Cardiff. Ashley is the daughter of an oil magnate and wants to use her money to set up a fund to repair the damage done by pipelines in Alaska. Maggie points out to Paul that she was assured by Posner that she would get to prioritize her pro bono cases. Paul doesn't care, and questions whether she's competent. After, Maggie complains to Matt about how Ashley is a rich girl trying to buy off her conscience. He's more concerned about his relationship with Taylor, and admits he hasn't told her that he loves her.
Keith goes over the case with Angela. She wonders if he told anybody about the blood test that showed cocaine traces. He admits he told Eli but not her mother. When Angela asks him if he thinks she's guilty, Keith dodges the question and simply says he'll defend her the best he can. That isn't good for her and she leaves.
An eager Patti brings coffee to Eli to make sure he's awake and ready for the trial. She tells him that Angela is her entire life but he admits it doesn’t look good for her. Patti asks about the message he left on her voice mail and figures that he received a vision from God. Eli admits he did and that God told him that Angela was innocent.
In court, the med school director testifies that Angela was the only one who took drugs from the locked cabinet without a patient case file. Eli does the best he can on cross-exam. Next, ADA Jarrells calls the officer who arrested Angela on her earlier DUI charge, the one that was dismissed. Eli and Keith both object but Jarrells convinces the judge that the cocaine indicators go to motive and the judge allows. They meet with Angela in private and she admits that she was using cocaine when the officer pulled her over that night. However, she says it was a one-time thing at a party and she didn't steal drugs from the med school. Eli tells her she'll need to tell them the truth and she gives the name of the seller.
Maggie and Matt meet with Ashley, who senses that Maggie doesn’t like her. Matt takes a call from Taylor and Maggie tells Ashley how he wants to tell his girlfriend he loves her and is trying to do it at a Seal concert, since Taylor is a big fan of the singer. Ashley knows Seal's wife and offers to get him tickets as a favor.
After the accounting department mistakenly contacts her, Taylor goes to Jordan and reveals he's been charging a hotel room on his company credit card. He explains that he's been living alone since he and his wife Ellen are taking some time apart. After the accident, they drifted apart. Taylor offers to put him up at her place but he declines.
While tracking down Angela's lead, Keith finds Mark Young. Mark has been dealing cocaine to Angela until her money ran out. When that happened, she tried to trade him the stolen opiate for cocaine. Eli doesn't believe it but Mark has a record of all of Angela's phone calls to him. Keith doesn’t understand why Eli is so insistent about Angela's innocence and Eli explains that he had a vision. Keith isn't sure what to make of that.
Eli drops in to see Frank, who wonders if Eli checked out the blind date. Eli admits he's been too busy and is unhappy that he's messing up Patti's life. Frank figures that Eli is dodging the date deliberately, and Eli admits he's afraid to get close to anyone: Taylor, Maggie, and now Patti have all been hurt by his actions. Frank believes they're the better for his presence in their life, but Eli insists that he violated Patti's trust.
Matt takes Taylor to the Seal concert and then tells her that he loves her. Afterward, Taylor says she can't say the same thing about him because she isn't sure. He accuses her of being the insensitive one while he's in touch with his feminine side, and walks away.
Eli admits to Patti that he made a mistake. When Angela arrives, Patti demands that her daughter tell the entire truth. Angela finally admits that she's a drug addict and that her mother doesn't know her. All Patti has done has put pressure on her to succeed. Patti slaps her and Angela says Patti has her own problem. She leaves and Eli asks Patti what Angela meant, but Patti's angry with Eli for betraying her and walks out.
Later, Jordan hears about what happens and talks to Eli, who has been trying to call Patti without success. Jordan explains that Patti was an alcoholic when she worked for Jordan. He eventually got a call to pick her up from a bar and told her to sober up or he'd fire her. She sobered up but did it on her own without treatment. Eli figures where she went.
Keith goes to see Angela, who is packing up and preparing to bail jump. He accuses her of running away and admits that he believes in her, but she's going to have to stay put and fix her life.
Eli finds Patti at her old bar, drinking. He wonders why she didn't come to him since she knows about his alcoholic father. Patti snaps at him but Eli tells her that Angela needs her. Patti wonders if she's a fraud, and Eli says that for once he has the chance to help someone he loves with his visions.
Keith makes a deal with Jarrells: he anonymously provides with evidence a prior client withheld in an assault charge. In return Angela gets probation and community service. Angela thanks them, and apologizes to Patti, who says that she was wrong to pressure Angela but still loves her. Eli and Keith look on as the women talk and Eli admits that Keith was right about Angela. Keith agrees, but admits he'd just once like to see what Eli sees.
As Eli leaves for his blind date, Jordan asks him to dinner. Eli notes that he's been distracted and Jordan admits that he and Ellen are separated.
The next morning, Matt is with Taylor in her office and she apologizes for not being able to say she loves him. She says that she's reluctant to share her feelings after what happened with Eli, but feels something for Matt. She has Seal come in, thanks to Maggie and Ashley setting things up with him, and the singer performs as Matt and Taylor kiss.
Keith and Patti get Angela into a cocaine treatment program, and Patti attends her first AA meeting.
Jordan drinks alone in his hotel room. Matt and Taylor read up on pregnancy.
And Eli meets his blind date: Ashley Cardiff.
