Season 3 |
| Holiday Wishes (Dec/11/2005) | Each designer goes back to visit one family who has received a makeover in the past and to join them on a mission to pay their good fortune forward..
Starting in LA, Sweet Alice Harris has asked Ty and the gang to give the Los Angeles Free Clinic a makeover. Ed stays behind to help with the task, while Ty launches the other designers on their missions to help as many people as possible.
Preston visits Robin Leslie, displaced from her home in New Orleans after the hurricane and now living in a run-down trailer in Mississippi. They set off to see her house for the first time, which, miraculously, they find still standing. Anxious to help the many others in need, Preston and Robin join up with Sears American Dream and, along with First Lady Laura Bush, deliver clothes to people who’ve lost everything.
Paul and Tracy visit the Pope family in Northern California and find that Shelby – who is allergic to sunlight – is thriving in the new house. The Popes want to help other kids with this rare disease, and are able to arrange for Disneyworld to open their doors at night. When Paul, Tracy, the Popes and 20 kids with the disease board a special Southwest flight for Orlando, little do they know that they’re off to have the most magical night of their lives – riding Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain and Dumbo, meeting the Seven Dwarves and other characters, watching fireworks and the electric parade – all in the dark, from midnight to 4:00 a.m. As a special treat, Brian Wilson performs “Deck the Halls” for the families.
Paige heads to Tennessee to visit Luis Rodriguez, who is doing great on his new leg and whose family is thrilled with their new house. Luis wants to do whatever he can to help Bobby Isaacs, another soldier who lost both his legs in Iraq. Paige and Luis head to Bobby’s house in North Carolina for an emotional reunion, a walk-through of Bobby’s tiny cabin, and a big surprise – both men are being sent away on vacation while we make over Bobby’s house with new floors, a new bathroom, a fishing dock and, of course, a plasma TV. Mike Iaconelli, the winner of the Bass Master Classic, comes to test out Bobby’s new boat with Paige, and while on vacation, Bobby and Luis speak to vets from other wars.
Michael visits the Broadbent family in Las Vegas. All are doing well in the house, despite their struggles with cancer and HIV. The Broadbents want to deliver meals to sick people who can’t go home for the holidays, so Michael arranges for a hotel on the strip to cook up a hundred meals, and Wayne Newton escorts them around the city, delivering meals to AIDS patients and other sick people in the Las Vegas area. They go to the extreme, not only dropping off meals, but also some extraordinary gifts for people in the community in what turns out to be a beautiful day of giving.
Meanwhile, Ty and Ed are busy working with Swinerton Builders to get the clinic ready, and James Denton of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” shows up to help plumb because, after all, he’s a plumber on TV!
In the end, all of the designers return to LA for the emotional unveiling of the new LA Free Clinic, and the band O.A.R. plays the theme song live, ringing in a wonderful holiday season of giving.
The design team for this special holiday episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” includes team leader Ty Pennington as well as Michael Moloney, Preston Sharp, Paul Dimeo, Paige Hemmis, Tracy Hutson and Ed Sanders. The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It’s executive-produced by Tom Forman and co-executive produced by Denise Cramsey.

People in his neighborhood nominated him for this makeover.
| 42 :03x05 - The Teas Family (Oct/16/2005) | | Paul and Cyndy Teas purchased a 60 year old rundown camp so they should open their dream camp, a camp for kids with disabilities. They went 3 years without a paycheck, and emptied out their bank accounts and retirement funds all for Camp Barnabas. Also in addition to having no money, they have no house space either. The volunteers who help out at the camp live in the Teas house with them, and their son and daughter. Now Ty and his team rebuild the Teas home, giving them a beautiful living space just for them. Also with another big suprise after the house reveal, the Teas find a seperate quarters just for Volunteers, including dozens of beds and a living room. | 43 :03x06 - The Ginyard Family (Oct/30/2005) | | Veronica Ginyard married very young. After the birth of her first child, her husband started to verbally, and physically abuse her. It continued until after her 8th child was born. Finally after he beat her so badly, she left him for good after he was charged with assault. Veronica and her 8 children moved into the only house the could afford. It was crowded for a family of four, and this family had 9. Veronica decided to hire a contractor to come in and do some electrical work, and some carpentry. He, however, started the project, took the money, and left them with holes in the walls and floors, and the house completely destoyed. Now Ty, and his team, including new designer Daniel bulit the family a 2 storey home, including 6 bedrooms, and a very spacious living area. Also the family was presented with 2 cheques. One for $100,000 for the kids college expences, and the other the pay off the mortgage. Finally the family was presented with a brand new Ford Explorer. | | | |
| 44 :03x07 - The Tom Family (Nov/06/2005) | Susan Tom, a single parent of seven adopted children with disabilities from Fairfield, CA, didn’t set out to adopt children with special needs, but somehow they found each other. After her divorce, Susan, a mother of four at the time (two biological, two adopted), became a foster parent and soon fell in love with the children no one else wanted. Now “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will give back to a woman who has given so much love to children in need by providing a new home for her family in two special back-to-back episodes.
Taking in children with challenges hasn’t been easy. For Xenia and Hannah, who were born without legs, and Libby, who was born with spinal bifida and confined to a wheelchair, the Tom home is a logistical nightmare. For Cloe, who was born unable to bend her elbows and knees, getting around the house and up the stairs is extremely difficult. There is also Katie, who was born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and is mentally challenged, and Faith, who was badly burned as a baby and encounters stares from strangers every day of her life. Finally there’s Margaret, who was not expected to live because of brain damage; she’s now a thriving 21-year-old who works full-time and helps out her siblings, as she pursues her dream of becoming a pediatric nurse.
In these special episodes of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” this family will finally find a safe haven to call home. Discriminated against on a daily basis by ignorance and physical challenges, the Tom children deserve to have a home that doesn’t discriminate against them. Susan and the children are thinking of taking in more children with special needs, if their new house could accommodate them.
While the design team, contractors and hundreds of workers, volunteers and a local builder, the Sacramento division of John Laing Homes, are building the Tom’s dream home and comfortable living environment, the family will go on vacation at Walt Disney World.
In addition, the Backstreet Boys send a special video message to the family while on tour, and country singer Mark Wills performs for the family at Disney World during their vacation. During the construction, champion wrestler/weightlifter Kyle Maynard (author of “No Excuses”), who was born with a rare disorder called Congenital Amputation, inspects the house to make sure it’s disability friendly and gets into a wrestling match with Paul DiMeo.

| 46 :03x09 - The Johnson Family (Nov/20/2005) | Ty and the gang team up with the Boston Red Sox to help build a new and renovated home for Tripp and Heidi Johnson of Medfield, MA, the dedicated parents of Will – a five-year-old with Spinal Muscular Atrophy -- and his family.
Just months after Heidi was diagnosed with a second spot of melanoma, her son, Will, who was 14 months old at the time, was diagnosed with a life threatening disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Although an average family might have buckled under the pressure, Tripp and Heidi rose to the occasion by advocating awareness. Tripp runs in the Boston Marathon each year to raise money for SMA, Heidi runs a parent volunteer program that teaches disability awareness education in the public schools, and on her last birthday, Abby, Will’s older sister, also became involved by encouraging donations in lieu of presents to help her little brother. After a wall nearly fell on Will’s grandfather while he was trying to build a first floor bedroom for Will, the family decided, at the insistence of friends and neighbors, to ask for help by applying for an “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Will does everything in his power to keep up with his older siblings – he attends pre-school and even plays in a baseball league, where he runs the bases in his motorized scooter! He is an inspiration to everyone he meets. A die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, Will once got the chance to meet his favorite players. Now some of the 2004 World Series champs, Curt Schilling, Jason Varitek and Kevin Millar -- who know a little something about overcoming the odds and making the impossible happen -- want to give back to this deserving young boy by teaming up with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to build a house that is sun-friendly for mom and accessible for Will. In addition, soccer Olympian Mia Hamm stopped by to lend a helping hand and kicked some ball with the designers.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” along with a coalition of Medfield custom-home builders, will pull together to give this deserving family a healthy home for their son. While the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team, contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers are transforming the Johnsons’ house into a dream home, they will go on vacation to Phoenix, AZ.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Michael Moloney, Daniel Kucan, Constance Ramos and Ed Sanders. | | Guest Stars: Mia Hamm as Herself
| 47 :03x10 - The Lewis Family (Nov/27/2005) | “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and the entire community of El Segundo, CA will come together to rebuild the home of police officer Bruce Lewis, his cancer stricken wife, Paulita, and their children.
One year ago, like many Americans, the Lewis’s took advantage of the low interest rates and took out a loan to improve and expand their small home. Progress was slow and shoddy. Then the heavy winter rains came, damaging and eventually caving in the roof, which destroyed all of their furniture and personal belongings. When Bruce confronted the contractor, the contractor abandoned the project and left town with $40,000 of the Lewis’ money. Bruce, Paulita, Erin and Hunter were left stranded at Bruce’s mother’s apartment -- all four of them living in one tiny bedroom.
Bruce is a well-known, well-respected police officer in El Segundo, and the community was eager to help this man and his family. As they struggled to rebuild the house, they received the most horrific news -- Paulita had cancer after discovering a lump in her neck.
The entire town of El Segundo has come together to help this family, and they are making slow progress on the house. But they can’t do what “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” does in a week, which is to give this mom the peace of mind that only a home can provide, so that she has a greater chance at recovery.
While local builder Taylor Woodrow, hundreds of workers and volunteers, Ty and the gang transform the Lewis’ house into a dream home, the family will go on vacation at Walt Disney World.
In addition, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks lend a helping hand and play hockey against the design team and builders, while standup comedian Robert Schimmel, also a cancer survivor, makes ‘em laugh at a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and ESPN sportscaster John Anderson also drops by.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” features team leader Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo, Michael Moloney, Constance Ramos and Daniel Kucan.
| 48 :03x11 - The Novak Family (Dec/04/2005) | Ty and the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” gang transform the lives of Jeff Novak, a recently widowed Special Education teacher and his three young daughters, Zoey, Harley and Presley of Boardman Township, Ohio, when they rebuild and renovate their damaged house into a beautiful, spacious home in just seven remarkable days.
Jeff and Jackie Novak spent most of their time caring for others, whether it was for their three young daughters or in the classroom as schoolteachers. As avid fans of “Home Edition,” the Novaks made it their goal to make a difference in the lives of others, as the show had done.
On Mother’s Day of 2005, the Novak family spent their morning hiking and playing in the park. In the evening Jeff and Jackie settled down and watched ”Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” as they did every Sunday. After the show, they kissed each other goodnight and exchanged “I love you’s” as they always did. Neither had any idea that, on this night, it would be the last thing they would ever say to each other. An hour later, Jeff brought their newborn, Presley, into bed for a feeding. But Jackie didn’t wake up. At the young age of 28, Jackie, the mother of three girls, was pronounced dead of a pulmonary embolism.
While the Novaks’ lives were turned upside down by the loss of their mother, their home was continually being ravaged by problems. Raw sewage annually fills the basement, their only shower leaks into the kitchen and family room below, and there’s only one bathroom in the whole house for Jeff and three growing girls. Additionally, the windows are a problem without any screens or air conditioning… Jeff is forced to leave the windows propped open, which is a safety concern for curious toddlers. The entire floor plan, composed of small rooms, is a logistical disaster, making surveillance of the young children impossible for Jeff. But although the house is riddled with problems, unquestionably the biggest challenge for Jeff is suddenly becoming a single parent of three little girls and staying strong in the face of tragedy.
In this episode, the show that brought the Novaks together on Sundays will be the show that keeps the Novaks together for the rest of their lives.
While Ty and the gang, along with the local builder T.C. Quality Homes and the hundreds of workers and volunteers, transform the Novak house into a comfortable and safe home, the Novak family will go on vacation to Daytona Beach, Florida.
While on vacation, celebrity chef Bobby Flay teaches Jeff Novak how to cook, and the band Uncle Kracker performs a special song for the family after their new home is revealed.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Paul Dimeo, Paige Hemmis, Constance Ramos and Daniel Kucan.
| 49 :03x12 - The Nutsch Family (Jan/08/2006) | Kevin and Cathy Nutsch and their five daughters from Douglas, Kansas, who lost everything that was near and dear to them when their house literally exploded, will receive a brand new renovated home thanks to the team of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”.
While on vacation in the summer of 2005, the Nutsch family received a shocking phone call notifying them that a propane leak had caused a blast that completely leveled their three bedroom bungalow -- not only destroying their home but their business as well, since Kevin’s auto repair company was run out of their home. With their home, business and all their belongings gone, the family is now living in the grandfather’s basement until they can get back on their feet. But the pain is almost unbearable for Kevin, who still camps out on his property every night to try to protect what few possessions the family still has.
It only took seconds to completely obliterate seventeen years of memories for the Nutsch family, but Ty and the gang will work their hardest to try to rebuild a large part of their lives. While the family is away, the EM: HE gang help the Nutschs “pay it forward” by helping another deserving family in need from the community -- who were affected by Hurricane Katrina -- with a fundraiser event headlined by country singer Martina McBride. Plus volleyball star Gabrielle Reece helps decorate a special, themed room, and plays a little game of sideout with Eduardo Xol.
While the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team, contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers, along with the local builder Wichita Roofing and Remodeling, are building a new house for the Nutsch family in a remarkable seven days, the family enjoys a vacation at Walt Disney World.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Ed Sanders, Preston Sharp, Tanya McQueen and Eduardo Xol. The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It’s executive-produced by Tom Forman and co-executive produced by Denise Cramsey.
| 50 :03x13 - The Kirkwood Family (Jan/15/2006) | Thanks to their tenacious eleven-year-old daughter, Jael, the Kirkwood family from Port Orchard, WA will receive a new home designed by Ty and the gang of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
One year ago, eleven-year-old Jael Kirkwood completed an application for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” for her family, but didn’t hear back from anyone. The Kirkwoods gave up, but not Jael. Instead, she tracked down Sweet Alice Harris from a previous episode and asked for advice on how to get her family’s application read by show producers. Sweet Alice suggested that she contact her local mayor, and that’s exactly what Jael did.
Mayor Kim Abel of Port Orchard, remembers getting a call from then 10-year-old Jael and, moved by the girl’s sheer determination, contacted the casting department on her behalf.
What’s striking is that she almost didn’t live to do this for her beloved family: When she was just four hours old, Jael had to have emergency surgery to remove half of her small intestine in order to save her life. She then spent the next several months in and out of different hospitals. At ten months, Jael weighed only 9 lbs.
The Kirkwood family has been through a lot, but the biggest problem they’re facing now is the hazardous black mold that has taken over their house. When their contractor skipped out, the mold moved in. Exposed wiring, open walls and poor ventilation left the Kirkwoods without the much-needed extra space their basement would have provided, and right now all four girls share one tiny room. But the tenacity of one girl will pay off when “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” along with local builder Howland Homes, pull together to give Jael and her family the home they deserve.
While the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team, contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers are transforming the Kirkwoods’ house into a dream home, they will go on vacation to Walt Disney World.
| 51 :03x14 - The Hebert Family (Jan/22/2006) | When Eric Hebert of Sandpoint, ID got the unexpected call a year ago that his sister had died, leaving her twin children orphaned, he stepped up to the plate in a big way by becoming instant father to his niece and nephew. Now it’s Ty and the gang’s turn to step up to the plate in their “extreme” way by turning a rundown house into a home that will preserve the meaning of family and help rebuild lives.
Eric was living life as a bachelor in Montana and saw his family in Idaho about once a year. However that all changed when, in 2004, his 37-year-old sister, Francine Hebert, became the third person in his family to die of a heart attack; both his parents had passed away when he was only a teen. Knowing that his eight-year-old niece and nephew could possibly end up in the foster-care system, he packed up his belongings, moved to Idaho and became an instant-father to the twins, Keeley and Kyler.
When Eric arrived in Idaho to take custody of Keeley and Kyler, he could not believe what he found; the twins and their mother had been living in a rundown trailer. At the time he took custody of the kids, all he could afford was a “Berm House,” which is essentially a daylight basement with a roof on it. A construction worker by trade, Eric and the kids lived in a tent on the property for months while he worked hard to turn their shack into a three-bedroom house. Still, living underground isn’t easy; their “house” is also home to many species of insects, such as, bees, ants and spiders! Eric’s dream is to build them a home to finally be proud of, but since he’s now busy parenting the twins, he doesn’t have the time or money to make it happen! In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”, this bachelor turned instant father will get much-needed help in achieving his dream for his new kids!
While the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team, contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers, along with the Sullivan Homes, are building a new house for the Hebert family in a remarkable seven days, the family enjoys a vacation in the Bahamas.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Paige Hemmis, Eduardo Xol, Michael Moloney and Ed Sanders.
| 52 :03x15 - The De'Aeth Family (Jan/29/2006) | Animal lovers Dale and Melanie DeAeth of Washington, Texas, who started the True Blue Animal Rescue organization, and their three children, Jessica, Cory and Colton, will have their own home rescued by Ty and the gang.
The DeAeths are the first people the Texas law enforcement calls when they find abused and neglected animals. Their True Blue Animal Rescue organization provides a safe haven to horses, dogs and other animals that need loving care – and it’s run out of their own home!
While both parents have been working full-time jobs in addition to rescuing, nurturing and adopting out animals, they’ve neglected their own house, which is literally falling apart! The DeAeth home’s foundation has shifted, the walls are cracked throughout, and termites have invaded.
Since they started True Blue Animal Rescue, the DeAeths have taken in over 90 dogs and 40 horses – many of which are now living full lives in adopted homes. But they still have 30 dogs and 15 horses on their property and several cats that are in temporary foster homes. Between vet costs and nutrition, this family is in need of rescue themselves.
This family is so busy that everyone pitches in to help the animals in the evenings and on weekends, and each child has his/her own rescue dogs with their own special story. Melanie also helped take in and rescue animals left homeless in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and took horses and dogs back home with her to adopt out. In this episode, the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team heads to a Texas ranch to take care of the family who’ve worked hard to end animal abuse and neglect by taking care of so many of our furry friends!
While Ty and the gang, along with the hundreds of workers and volunteers and local builder Stylecraft Builders, Inc., transform their house into a comfortable and safe home and animal shelter, the DeAeth family will go on vacation to Palm Springs.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Tanya McQueen, Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders and Eduardo Xol.
| 53 :03x16 - The Crawford-Smith Family (Feb/12/2006) | Once a renowned dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Carol Crawford-Smith had to abandon her passion for performing when she was stricken with multiple sclerosis. She can barely navigate her home and dance studio now, but that will all change when Ty and the gang revamp and create a new home that will help her continue to live a life of dance.
Carol currently resides in Blacksburg, Virginia with her two sons, Hunter and Garland, and is the artistic director of The Center of Dance. The Center, which Carol founded, has choreographed over 100 community productions for the school and its resident company, UJIMA. A few years ago, after experiencing numbness and fatigue, Carol was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Today she can barely walk the 21 steps leading to her dance studio or move around her ranch home, which has the laundry room in the basement, a sunken living room and even more steps to the kitchen.
Carol continues to provide instruction, workshops and programs in dance-theatre, even though she can no longer demonstrate the moves herself. She is committed to passing along her love of the art to others, saying “I’d rather smile and keep going than cry and feel sorry for myself.” Carol’s dream has always been to have her home and studio in one place so she can continue to teach and spend precious time with her young boys.
In addition, talk show host Montel Williams sends an inspirational message to the Smith family and members of the Dance Theater of Harlem come down to Virginia and perform at the site. This episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will truly give this leader in her community a better life and help fulfill her artistic dreams.
Ty and the gang, along with Building Specialists, Inc., and hundreds of workers and volunteers, will transform the Smiths’ house into a combination home and dance studio, while the Smith family goes on vacation to the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, along with Paul DiMeo, Preston Sharp, Paige Hemmis and Daniel Kucan.
| 54 :03x17 - The Kubena Family (Feb/19/2006) | John and Monica Kubena and their seven-year-old identical twin daughters, Tara and Sara, who both suffer from leukemia and currently live in a trailer, will move into a brand new, spacious home that will be built in a remarkable seven days.
The odds of identical twins developing the same form of childhood leukemia at the same time are so astronomical that even the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society don’t have statistics on it, but that’s exactly what happened to the Kubena family of East Bernard, TX. Since they were two years old, Tara and Sara have undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation before they were both declared to be in remission. After years of being in isolation from their peers in order to protect their fragile immune systems, the twins were finally able to go to school and play with other children, which was something they had always dreamed of. However, recently Tara’s leukemia relapsed. Her best chance at survival was a bone marrow transplant, which she received in October of 2005.
In order for Tara to fully recover, she must live under certain strict conditions, one of which is to be completely separated from her other siblings -- Sara, as well as nine-year-old sister Kelley and 17-year-old half-brother Brady. Children carry many germs, and at this point in her recovery, this could kill Tara. Unfortunately the Kubenas live in a cramped, single-wide trailer where Tara shares a room with Sara and Kelley. Nor can the Kubenas afford to add anything on to their tiny home to accommodate their sick daughter’s needs.
In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” the design team will demo their very first trailer and make room in a brand new house for Tara to recover. And the Kubenas, who have endured a double dose of pain and financial hardship, will get it all back ten-fold!
While the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team, local builder Royce Builders, contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers are building a new house for the Kubena family, the family will stay in a beautiful Houston hotel so they can be near to Tara, who is staying at the Ronald McDonald House until her new home is completed.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Preston Sharp, Eduardo Xol, Ed Sanders and Tracy Hutson.
| 55 :03x18 - The White Family (Mar/12/2006) | Danna White, a pastor’s widow and her family of Ochelata, OK, will receive the answers to their prayers when they’re told the good news that they will receive a renovated and beautiful new home.
On his 19th wedding anniversary -- April 11, 2005 -- Pastor John White suffered a heart-attack and died, leaving behind his broken-hearted widow, Danna, and their five children, who are all now basically homeless. As pastor of Bluestem Baptist Church, John and his family lived in the church parsonage, but after his death his widow and the children had no choice but to move to make room for the church’s new pastor. The church gave them time to do this, but that time ran out.
Members of the church and community have rallied around this family, holding several fundraising events to help the Whites find a place to live. From these efforts, Danna was able to purchase two run-down trailers. The pastor’s life insurance also gave her enough money to buy some land. The problem is that one trailer is actually an old modular office that needs to be converted into a home. To make matters worse, the trailers don’t have any heat, a working kitchen, any locks on the door or carpet, and the doublewide doesn’t have any power. It’s been so cold at night that the kids have to sleep at friends’ houses just to stay warm. On top of all this, the Whites can’t even move the trailers to their new property.
In less than a year, the Whites have gone from a loving church family to a homeless, working family without a father. Danna is struggling to make ends meet, but she‘s determined to carry on the legacy of her beloved husband and to work as a missionary to help needy families.
In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” the design team takes on a mission of its their when they build a dream home for the pastor’s widow and her children so they can begin anew, as Pastor White would have wanted.
While the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team, local builder Simmons Homes, contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers are building a new house for the Whites, the family enjoys a vacation in Longboat Key, Florida.

| 56 :03x19 - The Rainford Family (Mar/19/2006) | Jamaican-born Dunstin Rainford of Riviera Beach, FL had just fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a U.S. Citizen when the unthinkable happened. Dunstin, a one-time hospice nurse’s aide, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, an unpredictable lymphatic cancer. His dying wish to provide a happy and safe home for his family will now be granted.
Throughout his treatments, Dunstin has stayed positive, telling his children that something good would come out of this horrific situation. The children believed him until Hurricane Wilma ravaged their home in September, tearing off a portion of their roof and destroying the interior. Prior to the hurricane and to his diagnosis, Dunstin had been trying to fix up his home one room at a time, but now every last penny has gone to the roof and his medical expenses. There is nothing left to rebuild this dad’s dream for his children.
Always the hard worker and dedicated father, Dunstin has a strong desire to live. However he is not frightened of death, and has made the arrangements for his children to live with his sister, if he dies. But Dunstin is worried about leaving his family in an unsafe house.
The “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team will grant this loving father’s dying wish to fix his home for his children and hopefully lift their spirits as well. As a celebration of life, Grammy Award-winning reggae music star Damian Marley performs for the family after the house reveal in a Jamaican beach-themed party.
While Ty and the gang, local builder Majestic Homes, and hundreds of workers and volunteers transform the Rainfords’ house into a dream home, the family will go on vacation to Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront Resort.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Michael Moloney, Paige Hemmis, Eduardo Xol and Daniel Kucan. | | Guest Stars: Damian Marley as Himself
| After the Storm: Mississippi (Mar/23/2006) | With all the heartaches and devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina -- the nation’s deadliest storm since 1928, causing nearly 1,400 deaths -- the people of Biloxi, Mississippi coastline have suffered untold pain. A once-vibrant community now looks like a war zone: Casino barges traveled 800 feet into apartment buildings, while elsewhere neighborhood homes and businesses simply vanished. Now the design team of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” heads to Biloxi to rebuild some cornerstones of the community, including a local free medical clinic, and to erect a new memorial to the victims of Katrina. In addition, the show honors Jared Murphy, a young war veteran and local hero who helped save 200 neighbors during the hurricane.
Designer Preston Sharp creates a poignant new memorial with Anderson construction to honor the local people who died in Hurricane Katrina. Preston asked the community to bring forth their mementos from the hurricane to incorporate into a special time capsule and form part of a mosaic to commemorate the tragedy. A candlelight vigil is held to honor the victims and their surviving relatives at the memorial’s unveiling.
Designer Paul DiMeo helps transform a demolished community clinic into a magnificent, new medical center to serve the area’s residents. While local construction workers and volunteers work hard on this build, the clinic’s staff will go on a well-deserved spa retreat. And, with the help of Sears American Dream, designers Ed Sanders and Tracy Hutson deliver washers and dryers to 29 deserving families living in a FEMA trailers.
Jared Murphy, a 28-year-old father of two, was the first Mississippian wounded in the war in Iraq. He had just returned home when Katrina hit Biloxi, so he went to his local base, gathered a team and led an amphibious assault vehicle on a rescue mission that saved 200 people. A true hero overseas and at home, Jared’s greatest worry is that, if he needs to return to Iraq, his family -- and especially his son, who has special health needs -- will be left behind without anyone to care for them. Jared takes Ty Pennington on a re-creation of his rescue mission, culminating with a surprise beachside reunion and party with the some of the local people he helped save. Jared, in turn, will receive a surprise donation to help him and his family in their time of need.

| After the Storm: Florida (Mar/30/2006) | Essie Reed, a.k.a. “Big Mama,” was one of the hurricane heroes. Though she lives in low-income housing, she is the de facto mother and caregiver for at-risk kids and the homeless, providing food, clothing, shelter and support. During Wilma, she fired up her barbecue and fed thousands of people each week. She is surprised by designer Ed Sanders when he delivers the news that he, local builder Homes of Merit and modular home manufacturer Adrian Homes will create a new modular building she can use as her headquarters and distribution center. In addition, many of the construction workers who build the unit are displaced Katrina survivors who are starting new lives in Florida. This is one of the first steps in getting them back to work, and they will also be the first recipients of Big Mama’s revitalized efforts, receiving clothing and supplies. Plus, the Sears American Dream team helps Big Mama deliver needed goods to help these people get their lives back on track.
When Michele Gross and Paul Costa were engaged over a year ago, they had no idea that their storybook wedding would all change when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. The storm ravaged the homes of their family and literally blew away their wedding. A month later they tried again, this time in Florida. As their wedding date approached, so did Hurricane Wilma. Once again their wedding plans were blown away. Now the storms clouds have passed and it’s a new day, as Ty delivers the news that “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is going to throw the couple the wedding of their dreams. With the help of celebrity party planner, Colin Cowie, Ty will make this an unforgettable celebration. Best of all, the newlyweds’ relatives from New Orleans will come to Florida to witness the celebration of love and survival. In addition, trumpeter Chris Botti surprises the couple by playing the Wedding March at their ceremony.
One of Hurricane Wilma’s casualties was the home of the 2003 Little League champions, a facility that served 600 children in the community. Designers Preston Sharp and Tanya McQueen, Sports Turf One and local builder John Hock Homes, along with scores of volunteers, completely rebuild the field just in time for opening day this season. During this rebuilding, the youngest players on the Little League team, accompanied by their coach, travel to a special spring training session with their baseball heroes, Florida Marlins Dontrelle Willis, Mike Jacobs, Jeremy Hermida and Jason Vargas. When the new field is revealed, Dontrelle Willis will throw out the first pitch.

| 59 :03x22 - The Holmes Family (Apr/02/2006) | Sadie Holmes and her family of Altamonte Springs, FL, received the remarkable news that their hurricane damaged home will be renovated in seven days.
For years Sadie Holmes battled addiction, but she eventually won that battle and turned her life around. Sadie’s community, having witnessed this, reached out to her and began to donate food, clothing and furniture, which allowed her to make a brand new start. Soon the donations became more than Sadie and her family needed, however, so she started donating them to others in need. These actions led to the creation of the first non-profit in their community, Sadie Holmes Help Services, Inc. Although the organization was initially run out of the Holmes’ house, in 2003 Sadie and her children made the decision to move into a rented apartment so they could have more room for the rapidly increasing donations.
Sadie doesn’t pay herself for her work but instead supports herself and her children out of minimal child support. She really believes that her purpose in life is to run this organization and help others in need. She teaches these values to her children, and their goal is to build a home large enough so that they can live and run the non-profit out of the same building. A longer-term goal is to build a halfway house for recovering drug addicts so they don’t have to go back to the streets.
But then came Hurricane Charley, which badly damaged the Holmes’ house. Without the money to fix it, they lost their insurance. The house was damaged further by a fire in 2005; with no insurance and no means to fix things, the Holmes are really stuck. Somehow Sadie continues to run the non-profit out of that home and continues to rent a separate space for her family.
The generosity and determination of this woman and her children will pay off when “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” along with local builder Mercedes Homes, pull together to give them the home they deserve. While the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team, contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers are transforming the Holmes’ house into a dream home, they will go to Disneyland for vacation.
| After the Storm: New Orleans (Apr/06/2006) | When Hurricane Katrina and the post-storm flooding hit New Orleans, the 118-year-old First Emmanuel Baptist Church, which had served a congregation of over 1,000, was badly damaged. Now “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” designer Michael Moloney and local builder Donahue Favret will help bring back the community by bringing back the church. At the reveal of the freshly-renovated church, Michael and Pastor Charles Southall III gather the congregation, complete with gospel choir, for the first service at the church since the Hurricane.
In addition, Ty Pennington and Paul DiMeo personally deliver new instruments, courtesy of Gibson/Music Rising, to local musicians who lost everything in the floods -- Craig Klein, Barney Floyd, Larry Batiste, Ken “Snakebite” Jacobs, Irvin Mayfield and Archille O’Neal. The giveaway culminates in a rousing concert by the musicians celebrating the comeback of New Orleans and Mardi Gras at one of the city’s favorite music venues.
In Katrina’s aftermath, thousands of pets were rescued and sent to foster homes and shelters nationwide. Paul DiMeo fulfills the wishes of many families in an emotional segment by reuniting them with their furry friends.
Since the floods of Hurricane Katrina, 600 children and their families have returned to rebuild their lives and play once again in St. Bernard’s Parish, but unfortunately there is no playground. Eduardo Xol, plus scores of volunteers, will build a playground so these children can have a happy and safe place to play again in their neighborhood.
Also, in hard-hit St. Bernard Parish, Paige Hemmis helps returning residents track down irreplaceable family photos in their devastated homes and has professional photo restorers save what was thought to be lost forever. The newly-restored images of loved ones and personal milestones are revealed to hundreds of families.
| 61 :03x24 - The Craft Family (Apr/09/2006) | On March 5, Todd Craft of Hondo, Texas, a high school sports coach who’s been a constant inspiration in his community and his family, will receive the news that he will receive a beautiful and renovated home in a remarkable seven days thanks to “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” In addition, while team captain Ty Pennington is busy helping families in the Gulf States with hurricane relief, his friend, Kermit the Frog, has his back.
Coach Craft is more than a coach. He is a mentor, motivator and inspiration to every student at D’Hanis High School. Now the students and faculty of D’Hanis want to show him how much he means to them. As a year-round coach for football, baseball and girl’s basketball -- and a teacher of Health and Speech class -- Coach Craft has neither the time or money to take care of his own home for his very special family.
Coach Craft and his wife, Elizabeth, have four children: Samantha (10), Sarah (7), Isabella (2) -- who was not expected to live after being born with Alobas Holoprosencephaly, a serious brain malformation -- and their one-year-old miracle baby and only son, Todd Joseph.
The Craft children require constant care, so Elizabeth must stay at home. Todd’s meager coaching salary is all they has to support them. But through all of their hardships, the Crafts continue to push on and stay strong. Their only wish -- and the school’s -- is for Coach Craft to continue to do his wonderful work at D’Hanis High School and not have to worry that his family is falling victim to their house. In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” the design team will help score a big touchdown for this very deserving coach and his special family.
| After the Storm: Texas (Apr/14/2006) | Sabine Pass, Texas, a small oil town of just 600 people, hammered by Hurricane Rita, is the focus of the fourth one-hour special. The team helps restore the town’s sole firehouse and local theatre in an attempt to bring back life and hope to this extraordinary town. In addition, team captain Ty Pennington takes local families on a shopping spree at a nearby Sears for much-needed necessities, culminating in a surprise free concert for the town given by the Goo Goo Dolls.
Firehouse No. 4 was the town’s only engine serving its population of 600 in emergencies. During the storm, the heroic firefighters worked a grueling 36-hour shift to save many lives before returning to their ravaged firehouse, only to find that this home away from home had been completely destroyed. Design team members Paul DiMeo and Michael Moloney, along with local builder Trevino Group and scores of volunteers, rebuild the community’s firehouse and present the town with a surprise gift -- a brand new, state-of-the-art fire truck worth $300,000.
Though Texas may be football country, Sabine Pass is theatre country. The theatre is a town focal point and headquarters to the school’s drama club, where students compete in statewide competitions. Now designers Preston Sharp and fellow Texan Tanya McQueen, along with local construction workers and scores of volunteers, rehab the theatre while the kids are sent on an once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York City with Daniel Kucan to learn about the acting business and see the lights on Broadway. When the children return, they perform the new theatre’s first production – in their own words – about their experiences during the hurricane, when almost every one of them lost a family home.
Since the hurricane, 95% of the population of Sabine Pass, Texas live in FEMA trailers, most without many basic daily necessities. With the help from Sears American Dream, Ty will help local families by taking them on a shopping spree to the local Sears so they can purchase basic necessities such as clothes, space heaters, blankets, etc. Then Ty gathers the entire town together for a free concert by surprise musical guests the Goo Goo Dolls, as they sing their hit song “Better Days.” | | Guest Stars: Goo Goo Dolls as Themselves
| 63 :03x26 - The Hassall Family (Apr/16/2006) | Michelle and Brian Hassall of Berry, KY, two deserving community leaders who’ve faced adversity in the past few years, have gotten the remarkable news that they will receive a beautiful and renovated home in seven days.
The Hassalls are loved in their community: Michelle, a violinist, teaches choir at the local high school and was recognized as Teacher of the Year. Brian, a 17-year veteran of the police force, was just named Police Officer of the Year. Despite being shot in the line of duty, he continues to do the job he loves and keeps the community safe at night. However the Hassall house is literally keeping this loving family apart!
Brian works the night shift because he suffers from migraines triggered by daylight. The only place he can sleep is in their damp, dark, windowless basement. Michelle, battling a blood disorder and now lymphoma cancer, can’t be in the basement for any length of time because of the dampness, mold and mildew caused by the home’s many plumbing problems. Her fragile immune system can’t handle any further sickness.
Michelle and Brian also have two adopted children, Alex (6), a beautiful African American girl and Sam (3), a special needs child from China born with a cleft palate. They were one happy family until Michelle was diagnosed just nine months later with lymphoma.
Unfortunately, every time they try to remodel their home to fit the needs of their special family, something terrible happens – whether it’s Brian getting shot, Michelle going through chemotherapy or little Sam needing another operation for his birth defect. With their medical and mortgage bills, the Hassalls have been unable to improve their home. All they want is to be able to cherish each day together and spend more time together. In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” this unique family, comprised of four unique people, will finally feel like one family under one roof!
While Ty and the gang, along with the hundreds of workers and volunteers and Coalition of Builders led by Sosbe Construction of Kentucky and John Henry Homes of Ohio, build a house to fit this diverse family in KY, the Hassalls will go on vacation to Walt Disney World.
| 64 :03x27 - The Py Family (Apr/30/2006) | Loving and devoted grandparents William and Carole Py of Philadelphia, PA, and three orphaned grandchildren who were left in their care after their parents died, will receive a beautiful and renovated home in a remarkable seven days.
Having raised four girls of their own and put each through college, 60-year-old “Grandpop” William Py and his 57-year-old wife, “Grandma” Carole, were looking forward to retirement. But life had something else in store for them. In l997 Grandpop and Grandma, a couple who enjoyed spoiling their grandkids but who also liked the idea that they could send the children home to their own parents after fun visits, would have their lives shattered by the first of two tragedies that would befall this closely-knit family. In July of that year, their son-in-law, José Rosario, 33, died unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm. José left behind his wife, Sharon Py Rosario, a breast cancer survivor, and three young children, William, Samantha and José, or “Joey.”
Devastated by their loss, Sharon and her children returned home to be with her parents, Grandpop and Grandma, who welcomed them with open, loving arms. Not long after, though, Sharon discovered that her breast cancer was back. Only 14 months after losing her husband, 28-year-old Sharon lost her own life. Her children were suddenly orphans.
Grandpop and Grandma Py were not about to turn their backs on their grandkids. The hard-working couple -- who had often wondered how they would be able to live a financially comfortable life of retirement before the added responsibilities that caring for their orphaned grandkids would bring -- faced the harsh reality that things would be even tougher as they headed into the future.
Complicating matters was the discovery that their house was contaminated by asbestos and lead. Realizing that both can cause severe medical problems, Grandpop and Grandma Py wondered and worried how they might find the money needed to rid their house of these hazards.
In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” the design team will help this loving family have the safe and beautiful home they so richly deserve. And, while we know Philly native Paul DiMeo and the designers can “bring it” on the construction build, can they hold their own against Philadelphia Eagle Jeremiah Trotter and 76’erChris Webber? Plus Pennsylvania native and singer Vanessa Carlton performs at a special breast cancer awareness fundraising concert. | | Guest Stars: Vanessa Carlton as Herself
| 65 :03x28 - The Peter Family (May/07/2006) | Winston Peter, a Hindu priest, and his family from Jamaica, NY, received the answer to their prayers when they were given the good news that they’ll receive a renovated and beautiful new home in just seven days.
Winston and Hardai Peter left their homeland of Guyana in 1996 and struggled long and hard to make a new home for their family in America. They were on their way to achieving the American dream when tragedy struck. In December of 2004, their tri-level colonial house burst into flames, depriving them not only of their home but all their possessions. Penniless and without other recourse, the Peters were forced to move back into their burned out house.
They’ve since been living in a home without heat or hot water, and with very little electricity. They have to boil water whenever they need to bathe and have to cook on a makeshift propane stove. To make the house seem livable, Winston and his boys use whatever money they get to cover broken windows with plastic and wood, and hang sheet rock and drywall to cover up any holes from the fire damage. Winston feels as though he’s let his family down, as he cannot provide them with a proper home. But as a priest he doesn’t make enough money to repair or replace his house.
In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” the design team heads to Queens to help this family rise above ashes so they may live out their American dream in their new American dream home! In addition, some special guest stars drop by and lend a helping hand: Michael Moloney drops by the set of “All My Children” to enlist the aid of star Susan Lucci in decorating a secret room for one of the family members. And romance expert/model Fabio offers his expertise to the EM Home designers on matters of the home and heart, while some NYC firefighters run “fireproofing” tests on the house and give Tanya McQueen a tour of Ground Zero.
| 66 :03x29 - The Arena Family (May/14/2006) | Jim and Gina Arena of Somers, NY, the loving parents of Jimboy, their only son, whose life and death touched the hearts of everyone in their community, received the remarkable news that they will receive a beautiful and renovated home in just seven days.
Jimmy Jimboy Arena changed an entire community forever. Diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at five years of age, Jimboy stayed strong. He inspired hundreds of neighbors, community members, several fire departments, officials and his own family with his infectious smile and spirit. Everyone in town knew Jimboy and prayed for him. They held fundraisers, birthday parties and even a parade to welcome him home from the hospital. But on September 28, 2005, shortly after his sixth birthday, Jimboy died and the Arena Family lost their only son.
Jim and Gina had set out to do whatever they could to help their little boy battle his illness. What little money they had saved over the years -- funds that were earmarked for several sorely needed repairs on the Arenas dilapidated house -- were put to far more necessary purposes. The money was used so they could travel with Jimboy to give him a second chance at life by seeking experimental medical treatments around the country.
Now the same community which supported Jimboy wants to pay tribute to him and help his family fix their broken home. A large Italian clan, the Arenas cant even enjoy a dinner together, though mom loves to cook. Their small house has seen its share of wear and tear from the kids and is literally falling apart and bursting at the seams! With SIX daughters and one bathroom, the Arenas are in desperate need of bigger and better facilities.
In this episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, we learn how one little boy changed the lives of hundreds, as Ty, the design team, local builder Alure Home Improvement and volunteers help Jimboys family get back on their feet and into a better and more accommodating new home. While their new home is being built, the Arena family will go on vacation at Walt Disney World.
In addition, New York Yankee catcher Jorge Posada meets up with Ty to donate an item for the new home, and singer Jewel performs at a memorial for Jimboy. | | Guest Stars: Jewel as Herself
| 67 :03x30 - The Turner Family (May/21/2006) | After a devastating house fire left Beverly Turner and her adopted children from Irvington, NJ homeless, Ty and the gang renovate their burned down home in just seven days -- and the biggest residential build yet!
Told she could never have children of her own, Beverly Turner looked into adoption. Now, at age 54, she has been a special mom to 18 special needs children -- despite having myasthenia gravis, a neuromuscular disease. Raising children who suffer from bi-polar disorder, autism and blindness isnt easy, but Beverly feels honored to have the opportunity. She knows that most of these kids came from homes where they were abused or neglected, and was happy to provide them with a loving home.
Beverlys life would take yet another challenging turn on September 9, 2005: Instead of waking up to a house filled with love and laughter, the Turner family awoke to smoke and fire caused by faulty electrical wiring. Suddenly a single mother and her then nine special needs children were homeless.
Beverlys insurance policy was only enough to cover the mortgage on the house, with no money leftover for the Turners to rebuild. After the fire, the Red Cross put the family up in a hotel for three days, then a neighbor let them stay with her for another six weeks, until finally they moved into Beverlys mothers house, where they now reside. Three of the Turners sleep in the basement, while others sleep on couches and a bed.
Seeing an article in the local paper on the Turners and their fire, about one hundred anonymous community members, including the Mayor of Irvington, NJ clipped the article and sent it in to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, hoping the design team could help! And now that the smoke has cleared, EM: HE will answer the communitys call and head to Irvington to help this very deserving mom and her special family.
While the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition design team, contractors and hundreds of workers, local builder Edgewood Properties and Century 21 Construction and volunteers are transforming the Turners house into a dream home in a remarkable seven days, the family will go on vacation to Arizona. In addition, singer Enrique Iglesias performs and Jason Kidd of the NJ Nets stops by to welcome the family back home at the reveal of their new house. | | Guest Stars: Enrique Iglesias as Himself, Jason Kidd as Himself
