Kate must mediate between a father who runs a clothing empire, and his son who is supposed to take over the business. Complicating matters is a driving incident between the son and two young men, one of which is a college bound student whose future could be ruined. On top of that, a judge assigns her to a dispute involving a marriage proposal, and only gives her one day to resolve it. With Lauren, her step-mother breathing down her neck, she needs to focus until the end. She leans on people to help her get the job done, but is it enough? With her father dead, Kate struggles to balance her new life.

Kate works to settle a case of a man who spent 22 years in prison when he was convicted of a crime he didn't commit. Kate's mediation is derailed by the man when he seems ambivalent about his settlement at first, then finally explodes in anger jeopardizing any settlement.

The exasperated young inventor of a revolutionary new device, Marcus, threatens to jump to his death when John, his employer and the rights holder to Marcus' invention, asks Kate to mediate his firing. Kate must get Marcus off the ledge, recover the device, which he's stolen, and find a fair resolution for both the disenchanted employee and his former boss.
