Excuse my ignorance and/or naivety but, when they were in the truck and she was telling him about her 'sordid' past, what exactly did it contain that made him "need to take a long mo to think about it and work out what he felt about things". It wasn't like she admitted to a previous high scaled baby killing spree, or that she used to be a man.
Maybe it's just me but the world is now infested with freaky aliens and she is this badass gun totting woman who has saved his and other lives on many-many occasions - which kinda gives her a free pass on virtually any previous happens / icky decisions in her life,
If that had been me in the truck I'da simply shrugged and said "past is past, now let's snuggle"
