After Stewie has a near death experience at the local swimming pool, he decides he needs to make changes in his life in order to become a better person. Meanwhile, after Tom Tucker overhears one of Peter's mindless rants, he asks him to make it a segment on the evening news. However, Tom Tucker soon regrets his decision after Peter begins to steal the spotlight.

After Stewie jumps from the shelf he says he has a deep gash up the side of his leg but when Brian drags him the living room, there's no injury.
| Stewie is afraid of the pool in this episode but in “He's Too Sexy For His Fat” he has no problem swimming and in fact takes to it very easily, even calling himself a “young Johnny Weissmuller”

| Stewie: “I guess it can't be worse than that summer I spent in India”
Stewie, confusing himself w/ the character “Short Round”, recalls a scene from the 1984 movie “Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom” where he, Indy & Willie face certain doom.
| Stewie: “Lady only here cause she humping director”
Reference to the fact that Steven Spielberg, the director of the film meet his future wife Kate Capshaw, who played Willie. They got married in 1991.

Family Feud is a game show that has been around since 1976. It has had various hosts over the years starting with Richard Dawson, Ray Comb, Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, John O'Hurley & Al Roker.
Judging from Peter's suit he may have hosted between the time of Dawson & Comb.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi better known as Mahatma Gandhi was known for (this is greatly simplified) employing non-violent civil disobedience for India's struggle for civil rights. He was assassinated in 1948.

A reference to Steve Bartman when he attempted to catch a foul ball in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series between the Chicago Cubs and the Florida Marlins at Wrigley Field.
While only five outs from winning and playing in the World Series, the Cubs ended up losing the game and went on to lose the deciding game of the NLCS the next night.
Bartman had to be led away from the park under security escort for his own safety.
