"Road to Rupert" is the third installation of the "Road to..." episodes. The two previous being "Road to Rhode Island" of Season 2, and "Road to Europe" of Season 3.

| A copy of "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story" can be seen next to Brian while he is at the garage sale.
| Stewie slips in an advertisement for Jack's Joke Shop once again, just as he did in Season 3 episode "Lethal Weapons".
| Censorship: The DVD version of this episode has two extra scenes that were cut for time when aired on television (both broadcast and cable):
1) A scene where Lois picks up a DVD called "Stymie Gruffin: The Untold Story" and comments on how it's just "three episodes put back-to-back" and "a middle finger to the fans". Before she can trash the movie any further, Brian signals two men in suits to drag Lois away.
2) A scene where, after Stewie loses his teddy bear, Rupert, Stewie drinks an entire bottle of NyQuil and becomes so delusional that he thinks a throw pillow is a cat.

During the "My Black Son" intro, Peter and his black son are biking along a beach and get distracted by a black-hair thin woman, causing them to fall onto the sand. This is a parody of the "John Ritter as Jack Tripper" scene during the first season of "Three's Company."
Also during the "My Black Son" intro there are nods to Punky Brewster (Peter picks up the frozen dinner), "Family Ties" (Peter in the Ohio shirt), "Perfect Strangers" (the revolving door), "Who's the Boss?" (the curtain vacuuming), "Laverne & Shirley" (the glove on the conveyor belt, the doors hitting each other, and the dough landing on Peter and Lois while they kiss), and "Bosom Buddies" (catching fruit with the bag).

The space funeral scene is a parody of Spock's funeral in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn.

One of the shows Peter puts himself into is the classic sitcom Cheers. The animation of the show looks almost exactly like the real one, and the lines exchanged were even often exchanged in the real show. George Wendt (who played Norm on the show) even voiced the animated Norm for this episode.

Brian and Stewie get a ride from Smokey and the Bandit from the movie Smokey and the Bandit on their way to Colorado.
| Peter: There is no Peter, only Zuul.
Peter's line is the exact line spoken by the character "Dana" in the hit movie Ghostbusters (Replacing Dana with Zuul, obviously).

First for the fact that a young woman from Colorado, Katelyn Faber, accused NBA star Kobe Bryant of sexual assualt, leading to the star's public status downfall. Second, the Columbine shootings, in which two students from Columbine Highschool in Columbine, Colorado brought guns into school and killed several other students.
