Episode Quotes

Pawtucket Pat: Take a drink,
and you'll sink,
to a state of pure inebriation.
You'll be tanked,
like the whole Irish nation.
When you drink enough of my beer,
you will find this magic brew'll,
Make your every joke a jewel.
You'll drive drunker than Oksana Bayul.
Go on buds drink my suds,
'till you've reached that pure inebriation.
though the beer may be free,
you're just renting it from me.

Cleveland: He's tasting victory. I bet it tastes good, like salt-water taffy or a Chunky.

Peter: It's like I died and went to heaven...but then they realized that it wasn't my time and sent me back to a brewery."

Peter: Beer that never goes flat. Do you know what that means, Brian? This beer will still be carbonated long after you die of old age and we buy another dog to help the kids ... y'know, forget about you.

Peter: Lois, everyone has their sanctuary. The Catholics have churches, fat people have Wisconsin, and I have the Pawtucket Brewery.

Lois: You're drunk again.
Peter: No, I'm just exhausted 'cause I've been up all night drinking.

Lois: Oh, my God! You can only play the piano when you're drunk!
Peter: Now that's not true! I can also vomit, fall down and make dirty calls to your sister when I'm drunk!

Peter: (when he's hungover) This sucks worse than that time I went to that museum. (Flashback to childhood, standing in museum looking at dinosaur
skeltons.)

Peter: (as a child) Why did all the dinosaurs die out?
Man at Museum: Because you touch yourself at night.

Mafia guy: You come to me and ask me to kill a man I do not know. Now I ask you, why should I kill this "Count Chocula"?
Captain Crunch: Because that son of a bitch has been spreading lies! My cereal does not cut the roof of your mouth! With all respect.

Host: This one for Peter Griffin and Tony Randall.
Announcer: The password is 'flaming'.
Peter: You...
Tony: Actor.
Peter: You...
Tony: Tony?
Peter: You...

Peter: Hey, guys! Check it out. Quagmire's trying to get lucky.
Quagmire: Hey, gorgeous! You want to come home with me?
Lady: I'm with my husband.
Quagmire: Lose the zero, get with the hero!
(Husband punches Quagmire.)
Quagmire: Little violent for you, don't you think?
(Husband punches Quagmire again.)
Quagmire: I'll be right over there.

Lois: Have you been drinking?
Peter: Why, yes, I have. Thank you.

Peter: The lesson here is that abusing alcohol has absolutely no negative consequences. You have your trophy and my brain cells are just fine.

Episode Goofs

There's a book next to Meg who is sitting on the couch while she is talking to Lois who is talking to Meg. However, when Peter returns home with beer, the book is gone.

Peter drinks a glass of beer, with the quarter still in it, and then the scene cuts to a flashback. When it returns, the glass is full again, and remains that way.

Captain Crunch is wearing red but the character actually wears blue.
(However, perhaps to avoid copyright issues, this may have been done intentionally)

Cultural References

The first and second acts of “Wasted Talent” are based on 1971's “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” including among others, Pawtucket Pat's appearance being similar to the star Gene Wilder.

Instead of silver scrolls hidden in beer bottles Willy Wonka placed 5 golden tickets inside his chocolate bars for kids to find and win admittance to his chocolate factory.

Cleveland: “Yeah, you never win anything. Remember when you went on Password”

Peter appeared on the game show “Password” (1961-1975) aka “Password Plus” (1979-1982) aka “Super Password” (1984-1989) aka “Million Dollar Password” (2008-) with TV and film actor Tony Randall.

The clue being FLAMING and Peter insinuating Tony is a flaming homosexual, despite the fact he wasn't.

Gazoo: “Hello dumb dumb”
Peter: “Not now Gazoo, I want to be alone”

“Gazoo” aka “The Great Gazoo” is a reference to “The Flintstones” (1960-1966).
The same little green alien would appear to Fred Flintstone & Barney Rubble during the final season of the series and primarily cause trouble.

Tom Tucker: “...and as an act of contrition, I'll insert this carnivorous earwig into my brain”

Allusion to 1982's “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”.
Khan placed similar carnivorous worms into the ears of Commander Chekov and Captain Terrell in order to gain control over their minds.

Man: “Run home Peter, run as fast as you can”

This line is used in “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” when the character of Charlie Bucket finds the final golden ticket. Peter also runs home to the instrumental version of “(I've Got a) Golden Ticket” that was sung in the movie by Charlie and Grandpa Joe.

Singer/Actress Barbra Streisand & American Actor James Brolin

Pawtucket Pat: “A big hand for Cheech Marin everybody”

Los Angeles born actor Cheech Marin, best known for his stoner movies from the 70's with his comedy partner Tommy Chong. The 2 of them better known as “Cheech and Chong”

Pawtucket Pat: “Oh those are the Chumba Wumbas”

Reference to the Oopma Loompas from “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” and their songs they would sing for each child.

Joe: “I'm a Coors man! Silver bullet!”

(Obvious) Reference to “Coors Beer” and their long running slogan that describes their cans, “Silver Bullet”

Pawtucket Pat {singing}: “Take a drink and you'll sink to a state of pure inebriation”

Pawtucket Pat's song in a parody of the song written for the movie by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley & sung by Gene Wilder titled “Pure Imagination”

Pawtucket Pat {singing}: “...you'll drive drunker than Oksana Baiul”

Oksana Baiul was a Ukrainian 1994 Olympic Champion figure skater.
The song lyric pertains to her January 1997 arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing her car into a tree in Connecticut. The charges were eventually dropped.

The “Perma Suds” scene is a take off of the “Fizzy Lifting Drink” scene from “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”.
Instead of farting like Peter and Brian do, Charlie and Grandpa Joe have to burp to save their lives.

Lois: “You're like that idiot from Shine”

Lois refers to the 1996 movie “Shine” starring Geoffrey Rush as an abused former child piano playing prodigy

Peter plays the theme to “Dallas” (1978-1991), Dolly Parton's “9 to 5”, “The Lonely Man” (or as Stewie says “The Sad Walking Away Song from The Incredible Hulk”), the theme from the “X-Files” (1993-2002) & the theme from “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” (1970-1977)

General Mills Cereal mascot “Captain Crunch” asks Don Vito Corleone, the character Marlon Brando plays in 1972's “Godfather”, to kill another General Mills mascot “Count Chocula”

(As it says above) During the recital Peter plays the theme to “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” (1970-1977), complete with the character played by Moore, Mary Richards, doing her trademark hat toss and freeze frame she does at the end of the intro causing the people around her to stare.

Peter: “...and my brain cells are just fine”

The lone brain cell who breaks his glasses and cries “That's not fair, there was time now” is an homage to “The Twilight Zone” (1959-1964) episode titled “Time Enough at Last” starring Burgess Meredith where he plays a man who survives a nuclear blast and finds solace in the fact he has the time to read all the books he ever wanted but breaks his prescription glasses.
