Going in actual production order, this episode should of ended Season 3.
According to the commentary for this episode, the song performed by the sailors is actually several versions of Seth and his father Ron singing overlaid so it sounds like many people singing.
Episode Quotes
Peter: Lois may be worth a million bucks to you, but to me she's worthless.
Ball Caddy: Ah, they're after me lucky charms!
Quagmire: Oh man, I payed him ten bucks to say that!
Episode Goofs
In an earlier episode Peter states that he did not pass gas until he was 30. However, in this episode we hear Peter fart in a flashback of before they were married. And they were definitely married before Peter was 30.
Peter drops the belt he was using to hold the tree up before being struck by lightening. But when the episode came back from commercial, the belt was gone.
Cultural References
Stewie explains “Archie Comics” to Chris. The character “Jughead” is mentioned.
Archie Comics have been around since 1941 created by Bob Montana.
Peter: “There's worse things in life than rain... like uh, like spiders”
{Flashback}
Spider: “Oh he's behind the door”
The spider talking loudly in the movies may be a reference to 1991's “Cape Fear” starring Robert De Niro & Nick Nolte.
De Niro's character Max Cady talks & laughs very loudly in the theater purposely to annoy Nolte's character Sam Bowden.
Lois: “This is such a beautiful night. I love looking at stars”
Peter: “Say no more... Very interesting, but stupid.”
Lois: “HaHaHa Oh my god, I love Arte Johnson.”
Arte Johnson was one of the stars of “Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In” (1968-1973).
One of his character's catch phrases was “Very interesting, but stupid.”
Peter: “...God loves a working man”
“God Loves A Working Man” is a song by Dave Insley
Peter: “The Shadow is in reality Lamont Cranston, wealthy young man about town”
This a reference to “The Shadow” radio dramas from the 30's
Death: “Oh sorry, that's Edward James Olmos”
Edward James Olmos is a very busy American character actor. He can be currently seen as Commander William Adama in the final season of the SciFi Channel's “Battlestar Galactica”
Peter: “Robert Reed got Florence Henderson and he was one of those toe tapping burger meisters”
Peter's alluding to the fact that even though Robert Reed was gay (& publicly in the closet until after his death) he managed to marry Florence Henderson.
However Peter is confusing them w/ their characters from the sitcom “The Brady Bunch” (1969-1974), where they played Mr. & Mrs. Brady. Florence and Robert were (obviously) never married.
Cleveland: “That truck's coming up on us awfully fast”
Peter: “Holy crap! Do you see what I see?”
Cleveland: “I'm afraid I do”
Peter: “We're being chased by ghosts!”
Peter is obviously unaware they are actually being chased by members of the racist organization, the “Ku Klux Klan”
Frampton: “Are you sure you're not supposed to be at Keith Richard's house?”
Keith Richards is a musician, and a member of The Rolling Stones.
He is occasionally the butt of age & drug jokes.
