The team returns to Earth from a trip to another galaxy and start to touch down. The ship has some trouble landing due to shock waves but Reed manages to land it safely. Johnny and Ben start fighting as they descend down the elevator, and the platform suddenly cuts out. Susan manages to stop it with a force field. They hear a dog barking and go to investigate, and discover the doorbell now sounds like a howling dog. Their neighbor, Courtney Bonner-Davis, is there with a fruit basket and seems surprisingly happy to see them. Susan quickly gets rid of her and closes the door. Once the team is gone, "Courtney" contacts other operatives on the radio and tells them to begin the collection of samples.
Reed has H.E.R.B.I.E. run diagnostics, only to discover that it now speaks exclusively and nonsensically in Spanish. The scientist has no idea why the backups are failing. Meanwhile, Susan and Ben grab a snack and wonder why Courtney is being so nice. Ben bites into a cheesesteak and discovers it tastes like chicken, while strawberry jam oozes from the plumbing. Johnny answers the door and greets Willie the postman., He wishes them a Merry Christmas, inadvertently refers to him as "human" and then catches himself. "Willie" then starts asking questions about Susan's weaknesses.
Susan is drying her hair when Courtney comes up to her and suggests they cook together. The neighbor asks more questions as Susan wonders how she got into their penthouse.
Ben is taking the elevator when it malfunctions again. He starts weight lifting but the building attacks him with metal rams, bouncing him across the room. As he demolishes the equipment, Alicia comes in and the machinery stops malfunctioning. She offers him a twisted piece of sculpture, and then asks what is Reed's crucial weakness.
Mrs. Money, another neighbor, enters Reed's lab and claims that Ben let her in. She asks Reed to tell her everything there is to know about Ben's strength limits. Susan calls in and tells her that all of their neighbors have managed to get into the penthouse. "Mrs. Monet" extends a green tentacle toward Reed's back, but quickly withdraws it when he turns around.
All of the team get their visitors to the door and escort them out. Reed calls them in to talk to Mrs. Monet. When they get there, they discover that Reed is casually chatting with her, making up impossible facts. "Mrs. Monet" agrees with all of them and they realize that something is going on. Reed asks to see her wings and she casually grows a pair from her back..
In a secret chamber, the alien Skrulls watch the exchange and believe that Reed and the others don't suspect anything is wrong.
Once they get rid of Mrs. Money, Reed walks off without explanation. They follow him into the elevator, which shoots them up to the lab. Reed surrounds them with his body and warns them that the entire building has been compromised. He assumes that they're aliens given their ignorance of humanity. Reed takes Johnny with him to fix the lab while Ben and Susan try to determine where the real neighbors are.
Susan and Ben go to see Courtney and her husband, Edward. They bluff when asked about themselves and start asking more questions about the Fantastic Four's powers. Ben finally gives up on subtlety and grabs Courtney's husband. They grab cell samples, revert to their Skrull form, and report that they've been discovered and order containment and sampling procedures.
Johnny and Reed check the lab equipment and Willie sneaks up on Johnny and probes him. Reed decides they should go to find the others and needs Susan to test out his theory.
Susan defends herself from the Skrulls and contacts Reed to tell him what's going on. Reed tells her and Ben to get back to the lab. As they run down the halls, they discover that all the neighbors are shapeshifting Skrulls. When they get to the lab, Reed explains that they've been taken. He tells her to make the sky invisible. When she says that she can't, he insists and she discovers that they've been secretly teleported into a simulacrum of the Baxter Building. The Skrulls enter and take on the form of the Fantastic Four members. They realize that one or more of them may already have been replaced. The Skrulls all insists that they're the real Fantastic Four. Reed realizes that the Skrulls couldn't take their powers and the team attacks. However, the Skrulls manage to get the last genetic sample from Reed and then evacuate as Commander K'lrt, their leader, opens the chamber out into space.
Susan manages to create a force field to contain air for them long enough for Reed to use a remote control to summon their spaceship, which bursts out of the ship. K'lrt orders a retreat and his ship departs. Meanwhile, the Fantastic Four get to their ship but the Skrulls depart before they can catch them. The team returns to Earth and discovers that the building is working fine, and their neighbors are back to normal... and Courtney still can't stand them.
Later, the team meets and Ben figures that everything is fine. However, Reed warns that the Skrulls took elaborate procedures to get the samples and they haven't heard the last of the Skrulls.
K'lrt reports to his ally, Ronan the Accuser, and turns over the sample information. Ronan assures the Skrulls that they will soon have the greatest warrior in the universe.
