Imperius Rex - Recap

The Fantastic Four are taking a day off to walk the streets of New York City and have some quality time. Reed is using VR goggles to do his computer work, while Johnny wants to go home and pick up his new car. Sue berates Reed for not taking a break, but he insists he's dedicating only 49% of his attention to his work. Johnny starts another fight with Ben, but manages to cover himself in popcorn when he turns on his flame near corn. An irritated Susan finally uses her powers and separates them all to get their attention. However, the street suddenly cracks open and an enormous monster, Giganto, emerges from below. It grabs Susan and the rest of the team springs into action.



Giganto squashes Ben underneath its feet while Susan frees herself with a force field. It picks up a scent and strides away, They realize it's heading for the Baxter Building. Johnny is desperate to protect his car and they try to restrain the monster. Reed goes to his lab to get a stasis weapon and freeze the monster. In the aftermath, the crowd gathers to cheer the heroes and Johnny discovers that his car is gone. Reed proposes that they descend down the tunnel that Giganto emerged from. The others reluctantly agree and they follow the tunnel into an enormous cavern filled with diamonds and waterfalls of liquid helium. Moloids suddenly attack the team, using the liquid helium to freeze Johnny. Ben finds himself caught in a mud creature and more of the creatures overwhelm Reed, binding him in place. Susan tries to defend herself but a sonic-emitting creature bypasses her shield and gasses her unconscious. The Mole Man, leader of the Moloids, arrives to boast of his victory.



Susan wakes up as the Mole Man shows the team a cavern filled with eggs. He explains that when the creatures emerge, they will see him first since he lured their mother Giganto away. They'll imprint on him and then seek out food. Susan tries to turn invisible but Mole Man explains that they don't rely on vision. The others are equally helpless, but Susan secretly frees herself and leaves a force field shaped as herself to distract them. Reed says they should remain imprisoned so the Mole Man will explain his plans. They notice that one of the eggs is missing, and Reed figures that the Mole Man used it to lure Giganto to the Baxter Building. He decides they have to get Giganto back, and tells Susan to find the egg while they distract the Mole Man. Once she leaves, her force field substitute disappears and the team taunts the creatures as they search for her.



Susan returns to the surface and goes to the Baxter Building, unaware that Giganto is starting to free herself. She goes to the garage and finds the egg, which hatches. The creature emerges and Susan turns invisible to keep it from imprinting on her. Outside, Giganto frees herself and calls to its child. It runs outside and is united with its mother, imprinting on it. Susan comes up with a plan to lure them back down the tunnel and takes Johnny's new car. She gets Giganto to follow her by taking its baby and heads for the tunnel entrance.



Below, the Mole Man realizes that Susan has escaped. Reed frees himself and pulls Ben free, while Johnny finishes thawing out. Ben holds off the creatures while Johnny ignites and tells everyone to stop. He says that he has to make a call.

Susan drives through the city streets as Johnny calls to find out how awesome his car is. When he learns what is going on, he asks her to assure him that she's being careful. Susan is busy driving down the tunnel. Meanwhile, the Mole Man runs to the eggs as they start to crack open. Reed suggests that Ben get there so they'll imprint on him instead. Susan drives into the cavern and skids to a halt as the car falls apart. Susan brings the baby monster over and Giganto comes in, stepping on Johnny's car. Susan puts the baby down but Giganto attacks them. The other babies emerge and the Mole Man commands them to look on him. Susan renders him invisible and they see Giganto instead. The Mole Man attacks Susan and she turns him invisible... and Giganto attacks him. He begs Susan to make him invisible, and Ben suggests they go get lunch. Reed says they have to save him and Ben and Johnny distract Giganto while Reed captures the Mole Man. Giganto brings down the tunnel walls, sealing off her family from the outside world. The Mole Man tries to slip away but Ben easily captures him and they take him to the Vault. Susan apologizes to Johnny for wrecking his car, and he admits he wanted to be the one to wreck it. She assures him he can wreck the next one.
