World's Tiniest Heroes - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Reed is examining the miniaturized Fantasticar that he used as a probe to explore the microverse, while Ben looks on and wonders how the experiment is going to go wrong. Reed insists that it's merely matter reduction, but he hasn't worked out the process for miniaturizing humans. He's invited over a scientist, Hank Pym, to brainstorm. They're interrupted when Johnny arrives with a dog, which he names Fire Hound. As he leaps on Reed, he accidentally drops the miniaturizer's control device. As Johnny explains he's watching it for a boy downstairs, the miniaturized Fantastic goes out of control. Johnny sends Fire Hound to get it and the dog runs around the laboratory, getting a green substance on itself. Leaping on a panel, fire Hound sets off security alarms and the laser systems go out of control. Reed manages to get the systems back under control and Susan arrives to contain the dog and the Fantasticar. She falls in love with the dog and Reed goes off to bed, while Ben is relieved they weren't attacked by monsters.

The next morning, the Fantastic Four wake up and discover that they've shrunk to half their normal size. Everyone figures that Reed did something to shrink them, although Johnny is happy to be able to play with a giant-sized Fire Hound. Ben notices that Fire Hound is walking up walls but isn't concerned. Reed speculates that remnant energy from the mini-Fantastic transferred to them when they all touched it the previous day. Ben goes to the kitchen and Johnny goes riding, while Reed insists that it's a breakthrough in their work and he can reverse the process.

Ben is preparing a huge sandwich while the others look on. However, he shrinks again, much to Johnny's amusement. Ben's voice reaches a higher pitch and even Reed and Susan have to laugh. However, the others shrink as well to their new height. As Johnny and Ben fight, Reed admits that it might be a problem. He contacts H.E.R.B.I.E. but the voice identification fails because of the change in their voice. They continue shrinking while H.E.R.B.I.E. mistakenly identifies them as intruding children. Reed warns they may only have a few hours until they shrink out of existence.

Reed and Susan get to the lab only to discover the pressure-sensitive doors won't open to their touch. Susan uses a force field to open the door. As they enter, they're unaware that H.E.R.B.I.E. has now identified them as rodents and is prepared to exterminate them. Meanwhile, Ben chases after Johnny but soon loses his breath. H.E.R.B.I.E. attacks them as pests and sends mechanized hands out. Johnny is unable to generate enough heat to burn through them. Meanwhile, Reed and Sue are trapped in an access tunnel and attacked. They manage to use the override to open the doors and proceed up the shaft

Alicia Masters arrives for breakfast with Ben. H.E.R.B.I.E. greets her and insists that Ben and the others haven't left the building, but aren't in the building. The computer begins to crack up. In the access shaft, Reed hears the conversation and says they need to go down to get her help. They descend but the computer seals them off before they can escape. Alicia tells H.E.R.B.I.E. to notify Ben that she was then and then departs.

Ben demolishes the robot arms as they shrink again. H.E.R.B.I.E. now believes that they're mice. Johnny is shoved into an air vent and Ben leaps in after him, only to fall down into the underground parking garage. Meanwhile, Reed is unable to open the airtight door but admits that they will at least have a chance to explore the microverse. The wind picks up and they're sucked out of the tunnel.

Ben finds himself face-to-face with an ant and tells it to scram. Johnny flies down and Susan and Reed arrive. Reed recalculates their rate of shrink, but they're interrupted when an exhaust fan activates. Reed tries to hold back the others without success and Ben grabs him. As Ben hangs on, a horde of ants arrives. Much to the team's surprise, the ants work together and short out the electrical systems, shutting down the fan. Reed introduces the team to Hank Pym, aka Ant-Man. Ant-Man explains that the ant that found Ben earlier notified him that they were in the vents, and he came to investigate. Reed explains they need to get to the lab and analyze the probe so he can identify the energy and reverse the effects, by hand if necessary by touching the necessary atoms.

As the team proceeds up the shaft by flying ant, H.E.R.B.I.E. detects them and begins to panic. The compute runs the extermination transmitter, disrupting Ant-Man's control of his ants. They attack him and Johnny rescues him, but the transmitter continues to deafen. Fire Hound suddenly appears in a burst of green light and destroys it by breathing fire. Reed and the others are taken aback but continue to the lab. Ant-Man grows to normal size and takes the team into the lab, but he can barely hear Reed recite the code to open the door. Johnny sends up a flare to indicate the last number and they get inside. However, the team shrinks too small to be seen by the human eye. Reed takes command and working together, they grab an electron. There's a burst of energy and the team grows back to its normal size. Reed insists on explaining to Ant-Man how he pulled it off while everyone else flees the scientific explanation.

Later, Johnny tries to get Fire Hound to breathe fire again. The dog's owner Billy arrives to get his dog, Rufus. He thanks Johnny for dog-sitting, and the team doesn't bother to tell him how it was mutated by the green substance.
