Bait And Switch - Recap

Reed is using cosmic rays on broccoli to try and find a cure for Ben as the rest of the team looks on. An outside energy surge causes a power failure and when the team recovers, they discover that they have switched powers. Reed has become orange and rocky, Ben is human but can stretch, and Johnny and Sue have exchanged powers as well.

Although Ben is glad to be human, none of the team easily adapt to their new powers. They realize that an energy sphere outside the building caused the experiment to failure, and it has moved on to a new location. They go to investigate while at the Latverian Embassy, Doom and his lackey Lucia find them and send Doombots to watch them.

The sphere’s energies are causing destruction and the team tries to stop it. Further complicating things, they discover that their personalities have partially switched as well. The sphere implodes and Reed and Ben figure out that it’s powered by extra-dimensional energies like the ones Reed uses for his power gauntlet. Since they know Doom has a power gauntlet, they figure he’s responsible and that the energy disruptions are getting larger. They follow a new energy reading to the Latverian Embassy while Doom figures out that something odd is going and Lucia takes some Doombots to eliminate them.

The new energy sphere is even larger and they figure it’s pulling something out of extra-dimensional space. Reed figures since the energy disrupted his experiment and caused their powers to switch, if he can siphon off the energy he can reverse the process. They have to get into the sphere to do it, but they’re interrupted when the Doombots attack. Initially the robots are programmed to counter the team’s powers but don’t realize their powers have switched, and most of them get beaten.

Johnny creates a force field tunnel to get them into the sphere but the remaining Doombots adjust their programming and start to defeat the team. Ben realizes that Reed plans to only switch Johnny and Sue, so that Ben can remain human. Everyone but Ben goes into the sphere but the last Doombot attacks and Ben has to hold it off. Reed draws off the energy from Doom, who is in the sphere with his power gauntlet, and the sphere implodes. When the team recovers, they realize they have their original powers back. And at the Latverian Embassy, Doom vows to destroy Reed for interfering in his plan.
