Episode Notes
This was the first episode to be directed by Peter Andrikidis, who would return to helm some of the most critical episodes of the third season.

For the scenes in which Rygel is seen smoking a hookah, director Andrikidis decided that he should put it in his ear. The next time Rygel is seen smoking is in "Won't Get Fooled Again", and he smokes in the normal way.

"The Flax" was Justin Monjo's first contribution to Farscape. He quickly became one of the regular writers on the series.

Claudia Black joked that this was her favorite episodes from the first season because she got to kiss Ben Browder.

"The Flax" highlights John Crichton's Southern accent (and Ben Browder's) more acutely than any other episode of the series.

Although filmed after "Rhapsody in Blue", "The Flax" was normally aired before it. This was the final example of out of order filming during the show's first season.
