Episode Notes

The race between Crichton, Aeryn and the Charrids in the dune buggies was initially scripted as an outer space battle between fighters, before it was decided more of the action should switch to the Dam-Ba-Da location.

During the scenes where she was standing in the dune buggy, Claudia Black was very relieved that Ben Browder has considerable experience driving rally cars. They drove at 100kph.

Playing Ancient "Jack," Kent McCord died for the first time on camera since his appearance in the 1965 film The Young Warriors.

Lani Tupu suffered an injury to his hand while playing the blind Crais in this episode, but continued until the scene had finished filming before having it treated.

The subtitles of the two episodes refer to an ancient Greek myth. A scientist and engineer, Daedalus created wings of feathers and wax that would allow a man to fly.

However, he warned his son Icarus not to fly too high in the sky, otherwise the sun would melt the wax and the apparatus would fall apart. Icarus ignored his father - and learned a fatal lesson.

Ian Watson describes the five seconds when Aeryn realizes that Crichton has died as the best work that he did on Farscape's first three seasons.

Crichton's death was inspired by the first test in the nuclear testing program in the 1940's - very few people who have seen the blue flash of a nuclear explosion with their naked eyes have survived.

"I've never felt better," were also the last words of Hollywood actor Douglas Fairbanks Sr., of whom John Crichton was probably a fan.
