Episode Notes
Guest star Barry Otto is a well-known Australian theatrical actor, who appeared as the father in Strictly Ballroom. He is also the father of Lord of the Rings star Miranda Otto.
Otto's facial design was inspired by Robert Helpmann's appearance as the "Child Catcher" in the 1968 movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The nightclub scenes were shot in the Darlinghurst area of Sydney, in a dive that was appropriate for the episode.
Although Ben Browder doesn't think he makes a very attractive woman, he was getting wolf whistles as he walked from the trailers to the set.
The script didn't call for Rygel to bite off Dr Tumii's nose. After it happened, puppeteer Fiona Gentile took the nose home, and placed it on her mantelpiece.
The scenes in the nightclub with Crichton and Rygel in drag were a homage to the classic movie Some Like it Hot, starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe.
The script originally called for Crichton to "flash" the audience, and Ben Browder wonders just what the Creature Shop would have provided for use!
Director Ian Watson made his final appearance behind the camera on this episode. He gave every scene a "Dutch tilt," tilting the camera to emphasize the clams' effect on the crew.
Ben Browder suggested that Noranti have three different colors of urine all flowing at the same time.
The Creature Shop supplied tinted KY jelly to create poor Dr. Tumii's constantly dripping nose. One of their staff had to be on hand to refill the nose during filming!
