Episode Notes

The Strelitzia flowers, known to the Scarrans as Chrysterium Utilica, grow to huge sizes around Sydney, and can be found growing alongside main roads.

Before Duncan Clarke made his debut as Staleek, there was concern that the front of his costume might be interpreted as being rather rude. It was too late to make any changes, so he continued as Emperor in all his glory.

Ben Browder adlibbed the line "I am an American" in the scene in the conference room. Composer Guy Gross debated putting the American national anthem in the musical score, but decided that it might be a bit over the top.

The dance in the elevator was suggested by Ben Browder and Claudia Black, who both felt that Crichton and Aeryn deserved a moment of romance, even if it was in the middle of chaos all around them.

Dave Elsey's original concept for the Emperor Scarran was of a huge animal-like Scarran which would have dwarfed Scorpius, and been operated as a puppet.

The subtitle for this episode was suggested by Ricky Manning as a joke, but everyone loved it, so it was kept.

According to director Karl Zwicky, the script for "Hot to Katratzi" wins the award for the most number of script page changes. Each new set of revisions is a different color, and the final script included double green pages, marking the 12th revision.

A scene was shot, but not used, in which Scorpius pissed his pants. His urine was "the color of antifreeze," director Karl Zwicky recalls.
