Black Swan - Recap

People are walking along the river and black out. A bus goes into the water as the driver passes out. After the blackout ends, the two passengers who haven't drowned. One man, Ned, helps a woman get out.



The Present

Ned tells Olivia and Bryce that he hasn't seen a doctor until now about the pain and they wonder how he stayed so calm. He seems calm and admits that he's feeling better since they've been giving him morphine. Olivia says they'll keep him for observation and Bryce asks what he saw during his flashforward. Ned explains that he was rocking leather pants at a bar that he always wanted to go to but was too nervous to visit. He explains that he was happy and at peace and he was black.



Zoey and Demetri meet to discuss what to tell her parents. Demetri is distracted and lies, saying he's trying to trace a call from an informant. She asks about about the terrorist, Alda, who they arrested. She warns that the FBI can't violate due process, but she's fine with Demetri doing what it takes to learn what Alda knows about the blackout.

At home, Mark is entertaining Charlie with an egg. Olivia comes in and says that Nicole will be babysitting again.

Aaron goes for a walk with Nicole, a friend of his dead daughter Tracy. He notes that she went AWOL and says that they have to surrender to a higher power.



At the hospital, Olivia and Bryce discuss the scans on Ned and Bryce wonders how someone can go from Caucasian to African-American. She tells him to focus on the past and then brings up the psychiatrist Bryce has been ducking. She insists that he has to follow given he was considering suicide during the blackout. Lloyd Simcoe comes out of his son Dylan's room after Dylan throws a tray, and Olivia remembers her flashforward of him. She tells Bryce they should keep Dylan there for the moment.

Stan wonders why Mark wants to fly to Somalia and why they haven't heard of the blackout that supposedly occurred there. Agent Gough hasn't been able to get the satellite photos from the CIA from the era, and Stan says that getting on the CIA's wrong side isn't the way. As they leave, Mark suggests that Gough recruit a hacker that they busted to get the CIA info.



Demetri and Vreede interrogating Alda, who insists she's a businessman. Demetri doesn't believe it and points out she has multiple passports for different countries. She tells them that they want her associates but Demetri points out that they died during the blackout. Alda finally directs them to the Customer Choice Restaurant Group. They don't have anything definite on the group and Alda says that's all she has for them. Demetri warns that she's running out of time for polite conversation but Alda notes he's the one running out of time. She refuses to tell him what she means.

Demetri goes to Stan and insists they should pursue the lead with Alda, and insists that it's more important than dead crows in Somalia. Stan agrees and once they leave, Mark wonders what's wrong with Demetri. He insists he wants to be an FBI agent.

In the hospital cafeteria, Lloyd thanks Olivia for putting up with him. He explains that he wasn't there for his son since the separation and he doesn't want to go to his dead wife's home. Olivia suggests he should go there to get a feel for his son. Bryan comes in and Olivia tells him to transfer Dylan to physical therapy.

Mark and Demetri go one of the CCRG's restaurants in Indio and the manager explains it's the only one. One man get nervous and runs out the door. Mark and Demetri chase him through a trailer park and Mark finally tackles him. They find a case labeled yellowcake and Demetri thinks it's yellowcake uranium. However, Mark opens it and reveals that it's yellowcake heroin. Demetri snaps at the man, Vladimir, who insists that in his flashforward he's a rich drug dealer. When Mark pulls him off, Demetri punches him and then says that he dies on March 15 with three bullets in his chest.



As Vladimir is taken away, Demtri explains that he got an anonymous call and then apologizes for not telling Mark. Mark figures that Alda pulled a number on Demetri and wonders if the men in his vision are coming for Demetri as well. He insists that they can solve Demetri's murder before it happens, using their visions.

As Lloyd leaves to go to his wife's home, he gives Bryce a sketchbook that he dropped. Bryce admits it's a sketch of a woman he hasn't met yet, and then asks Lloyd what he saw. Lloyd explains that he was in someone else's house and got an urgent call from someone he doesn’t know. He hears a woman's voice but the vision ends before he can turn and see her. As Olivia goes by, Bryce gives her Ned's CT, which shows a hematoma in his liver. When Bryce insists that Ned's vision is significant, Olivia refuses to accept it and says she's not going to use the flashforwards as a diagnostic tool.

Bryce goes to Ned and explains his condition. Ned insists that he's fine since he's already seen a future where he's alive and a confident heroic type.

Nicole goes to see Father Seabury at church and asks to volunteer to help. Seabury explains they already have enough volunteers and asks why she's really there. Nicole asks how she can atone for something she hasn't done yet, and explains that in her flashforward she's being punished. She wonders if God made the flashforward happens and Seabury admits it's likely. He gives her the name of Audrey, the volunteer coordinator, and quickly leaves.



Bryce does research on pigment changes and goes to see Ned. He's already been taken to the OR and Bryce tells them to stop before they kill Ned. Bryce goes there and explains that Ned has Addison's Disease. He was calm in the bus crash and in his vision because Addison's produces melanoma instead of adrenaline, and Ned will be unable to adapt to the surgery. Bryce insists that Ned needs hydrocortisone but Olivia tells him the vision is affecting his personal judgment. Bryce responds by saying she's trying to avoid accepting the reality of her flashforward because of what she saw. Olivia refuses to hear him and tells Bryce to leave.

Lloyd goes to his dead wife's home and looks at all of Dylan's possessions, including a book on sleight of hand.



As Olivia operates, Ned starts to flatline. As they try to revive him, Olivia finally accepts what Bryce said and orders hydrocortisone. Ned recovers and they close him up.

Mark talks to Alda and demands to know what she has on Demetri's murder. She says that she read it on the Mosiac website. Mark asks what she knows about the blackout and asks her about Somalia and Detroit. Alda warns him that she deals with dangerous people, people willing to sacrifice anything, and tells Mark he's not wililng to sacrifice.



Gough runs a Mosiac web search on the name "Celia" without success. Mark comes to see him and tells him to bring in the hacker. When Gough wonders if Somalia is that important, Mark insists that it is.

Bryce tells Ned what happened and explains that his flashforward help them piece things together. Ned admits he wasn't afraid because he didn't need to be afraid, and the future saved him. Bryce then goes to see Olivia and apologizes, but she admits he was right. She offers to be there for him if he wants to talk about his suicide attempt, but he insists that the future saved him and he'll be all right. After he goes, Olivia is informed that physical therapy transferred Dylan back into Olivia's care.

Mark homes and talks with Nicole. She apologizes for disappearing and wonders why they didn't fire her. Mark says she's part of the family and asks her what happened. Nicole tells him that in her flashforward, she saw someone drowning her. She saw the face of the man who was drowning her, and thought that she somehow deserved it. Mark promises he'll do whatever he has to, to make sure she's safe. He insists the person she saw murdered isn't her, but Nicole isn't convinced. Charlie comes down and asks if Nicole is leaving. Nicole starts to go but Mark insists that she stay for supper.



Lloyd entertains Dylan with slight of hand and the boy positively responds. Olivia watches for a moment and then leaves. As Lloyd goes to get supper, he gets a call from a man named Simon. Simon informs him that Lloyd is going to have to talk to him since they're both responsible for the single greatest disaster in human history.
