A window washer, Timothy, is preparing to descend on a platform when he blacks out along with everyone else. The platform tilts and Timothy falls off and drops until his safety rope miraculously catches. He then wakes up along with the millions of other survivors.

The Present

Timothy speaks to a room of people about the good in what he was shown.

Stan reviews footage of Mark and Demetri at the Chinese restaurant and demands to know why he pulled a gun and took a woman hostage. Mark wants to see his wife but Stan demands to know what he was thinking. Meanwhile, Janis and Vreede take Olivia's statement about what happened when the men abducted Lloyd. She inadvertently refers to Lloyd as Mark, and describes how Lloyd sacrificed himself to save Dylan and Olivia. She asks them to find Lloyd.

Mark explains that he's frustrated because they're not investigating all of the leads they have, including Somalia. Stan insists that they're doing everything they can and takes offense at Mark's insinuation. He informs Mark that he'll have to see the Bureau-mandated therapist and won't return to work until she's satisfied that Mark is fit for duty. As Mark collects his thinsg, he uses his cellphone to take photos of his Mosaic board. On the way out, Simon Campos calls him over. Mark notices that Simon is watching video footage of Lloyd's abduction, including where one of the abductors hits Olivia. Olivia comes in and the couple embraces, but Mark notices Olivia and Lloyd embracing on the footage. Olivia tries to explain but Mark assures her it can wait until later and they leave as Simon watches with amusement.

Stan demands answers about Lloyd's abduction from his agents. They arrive in the conference room and Demetri is surprised to see CIA Agent Vogel waiting for them. Stan explains that Vogel has been assigned to the Mosaic task force. Vogel has asked Simon to participate given his association with Lloyd. Simon suggests that they look for anyone that would want to be able to harness the flashforwards and predict the future.

Lloyd is locked up in a dank basement. A man in a suit comes in and tells him that no one can hear him cry for help, and offers him a bottle of water to avoid dehydration. He informs Lloyd that all he needs to do is tell them what they want to know and he can leave, but Lloyd refuses.

The next morning, an elderly woman dons a pair of makeshift angel wings, reads from Genesis, and then sets her family Bible on fire. When the smoke alarm comes out, Nicole runs in and puts the fire out, and asks what she was doing. Nicole's mother refuses to talk. As Nicole leaves for work, her older sister arrives and Nicole tells her what happened.

Mark is reconstructing his Mosaic board at home when Olivia comes in. He admits he doesn't have anything else to do while he's suspended. Olivia wants to talk about the previous night. She explains that she was glad that Lloyd was leaving but Mark says that he's just glad she's okay. Olivia admits that she isn't, and she's been cold and distant. Mark apologizes, saying that he hasn't been easy to get along with recently. She suggsets that they just up and run away, and insists that she'll do whatever it takes to save their marriage. Mark kisses her.

The team reviews the recording of the 911 call the abductors used to lure an ambulance to them at a railyard. Vogel isn't impressed that they've outsourced the investigation to the LAPD. Simon suggests that he examine Lloyd's laptop and break the encryption so they can see what's on it. Vogel casually orders Janis to take a team to Lloyd's house to recover the laptop.

Mark arrives for his therapy session with Dr. Callie Langer and finds her heading out the door. They talk in the park and she suggests that he saw something in his flashforward, something he might not even be conscious of, that has triggered his recent behavior and given him a God complex. He gives her an edited version of hsi flashforward, but Langer realizes he's omitting something. She realizes he was drinking and Mark admits that he can't remember all of his flashforward. Langer suggests they use a drug to enhance his memories. Mark isn't interested and Langer tells him to call her when he's ready to try it, because she won't sign off on him otherwise.

Simon goes with the FBI agents to Lloyd's house and tries to access his colleague's files. He asks Janis to get him a beer and when she balks, repeats his demand and she reluctantly gives in. She goes to the kitchen and two men confront her. wearing masks like the ones on Mark's board. A few minutes later, Demetri and Vogel are summoned when they get the alert and find her unconscious. When she wakes up, they explain that the men abducted Simon.

Simon is tossed into the basement with Lloyd.

Olivia and Bryce try to keep Dylan for observation. The boy hides and Olivia tries to convince him to come out. When she sings to him, he comes out and sings with her. She then tells the official that Dylan might have sepsis and they need to keep him. The man reluctantly gives in and leaves, and Dylan asks Olivia if they're going to find his daddy.

Vogel and Demetri go to the railyard to track down the ambulance. As they search, Vogel notes that Demetri messed up their investigation in Hong Kong, but Demetri insists that they needed to find out who murders him. Vogel tells him to get his act together before he loses Zoey for good. Demetri throws a punch at him but Vogel easily knocks him down and tells him that if he wants to live, he needs a better partner then Mark. On the ground, Demetri notices flies hovering around a boxcar. Investigating, they find the corpses fo the two missing EMTs.

Nicole arrives for work and Bryce assigns her to check on a cranky patient. As she goes, Nicole notices a man who looks like the one who is drowning her in her flashforward. She runs after him but ends up grabbing the wrong person. She tells Bryce and Olivia what happened and Olivia passes on her description to security, and then suggests that Nicole contact Detective Liefeld, a friend of Mark's. Bryce assures her that everything will be fine. Nicole isn't so sure, and talks with Debbie the nurse about her fears. Debbie suggests that she go to Sanctuary and shows her a flier.

At the Sanctuary meeting room, Timothy talks about how he was initially confused by his vision where he was a religious leader. He explains to those gathered that he finally created Sanctuary, a place where they can be safe.

In the basement, Simon wonders what their captors want, and Lloyd figures that they want them for the NLAP experiment. Simon insists that they weren't responsible for the Blackout, but Lloyd figures that their abductors disagree. The leader of the three-starred men comes in, along with two of his soldiers, and explains that he acquired emphysema through years of smoking. He spits cigar ash into Simon's face, introduces himself aas Flosso, and tells them that he's a villain. Flosso then explains that his employers are paying him to question Lloyd, and asks him a technical question. When Lloyd claims that he doesn't know, Simon volunteers to help. One of Flosso's men knocks him to the floor and Flosso informs him he wants to talk to the man who pushed the button. He returns to his questioning but Lloyd refuses to help them. Flosso explains that Lloyd didn't cause the Blackout, but merely amplified it.

At the railyard, the coroner confirms that the EMTs were killed with poison. They also find the case for one EMT's phone and Demetri figures they can triangulate on it and find the ambulance.

Mark goes to see Langer and agree to the treatment. She wonders why he changed his mind and Mark explains that he's been driving everyone around him away because he can't deal with the future he saw. He admits that it was hard to say that and they proceed.

After Flosso leaves for the moment, Simon tells Lloyd about his flashforward where he strangles a man. Lloyd doesn't believe Simon is capable of that, and notes that in his flashforward, he received a text message from Simon. Simon confirms that he didn't send him a text message in his flashforward and wonders why their flashforwards don't match. Lloyd reminds him that the future isn't predestined and Agent Gough's suicide confirmed that. He then climbs up to a window, manages to get it open, and slips a discarded restaurant flyer with the words "help us" written on it in the hopes someone will notice it. However, it blows down the street.

Mark relaxes and remembers more of his flashforward. Much to his surprise, he sees himself receiving a call from Lloyd, telling the scientist that he wishes he was behind the eight ball and to go to hell. He comes out of his trance and tells Langer what he saw.

Rosso returns with his men and shows Lloyd the flyer. He then begins interrogating Lloyd again. When the scientist refuses to tell him anything, Flosso has his men prepare to torture Simon.

Olivia goes to see Dylan in his room. The boy asks her to sing again but Olivia tells him that she has to go home. Dylan offers her a cookie from his dinner.

Outside a bar, Mark calls Aaron and says he needs help.

Olivia sings to Dylan until he dozes off.

Aaron arrives and Mark explains what happened and how in his flashforward, Lloyd mentioned "the QED" and it appeared that they working together. Lloyd was close to cracking it, but in the flashforward Mark insisted that close isn't good enough. Lloyd warned that D. Gibbons lied to him, but Mark insisted that if they don't stop it, there'll be another Blackout.

The next day, Mark tells Stan what he remembered. They both wonder why Lloyd didn't tell them what he saw, and Mark determines to find and ask him. Stan tells Mark to go home until he can get him reinstated, and work the new clues he saw in his vision. He warns Mark not to tell anyone there'll be another Blackout, as it could cause a panic.

Demetri and Vogel track the phone signal from the ambulance to within 50 meters.

At home, Mark finds a picture of a hydra and puts it on his Mosaic board to match the one he saw in his flashforward. He also puts up markers to indicate where he saw a sign referring to Red Panda Resources.

Nicole goes to Sanctuary and talks to Timothy after one of his meeting. She wonders if they owe obedience to God, and points out all the trouble the Blackout caused. He wants to talk to her after the meeting and invites her to meet him at a coffee shop.

Mark goes to Red Panda Resources, an organization that provides humanitarian aid around the world. He asks if they were in Somalia in 1991, but the woman in charge notes that Red Panda wasn't formed until 1998. When he asks if he can go on one of the trips, she admits that many of their employees are ex-cons and refuses to help.

When Lloyd refuses to talk, Flosso has one of his men prepare to cut off Simon's little finger.

Nicole convinces Bryce to come with her to the coffee shop and sit nearby while she meets with Timothy. He wonders why she was upset earlier and she explains how someone was trying to drown her in her flashforward. Timothy admits that he can't interpret flashforwards, but suggests that it may have been a baptism and she accidentally inhaled some water. He insists that it's a combination of faith and free will, working together, and tells her to embrace what God has put in her life that is good and let the other things fall away. Nicole glances over at Bryce, who smiles back at her.

As Mark returns to his car, he finds flyers stuck on the windshields of the nearby vehicles. The flyer is for a cheese steak restaurant, and it's the same flyer as in his vision with the words "help us" written on it. He goes to the restaurant but the owner isn't able to tell him anything. However, when Mark realizes that the restaurant changed locations a month ago, he asks for the address of the old location.

Bryce drives Nicole home as they discuss the merit of religion. She invites him in but warns that it could be weird. Inside, they find Mrs. Kirby gluing pennies to the wall to create a mosaic. She explains she's using the 1989 pennies as a tribute to Nicole based on her birthyear. Bryce offers to help and asks if she thinks God caused the Blackout. Mrs. Kirby isn't impressed, noting she has hallucinations every day and coincidence is just God at work. Nicole puts on music and they work together on the mosaic.

When Lloyd remains silent, Flosso shows him pictures of Dylan. He explains they were taken before the Blackout, and they've had Lloyd under surveillance for quite some time.

Demetri and Vogel track the ambulance to a restaurant abandoned since the Blackout. They call Janis and invite her to come along.

Lloyd finally starts to tell Flosso what he wants to know. Once he has the answers he wants, Flosso tells his men to clean Lloyd up and get rid of him.

The FBI agents find the ambulance but when they open it, they find a bomb inside. They get clear just in time as it explodes. Afterward, they clean up and confirm that the bomb was set to a Bureau radio frequency, and that whoever set it knew exactly what they were doing. Vogel suggests that if Mark saw the men in his vision, they saw him and know that he and Demetri are at the center of things.

Bryce goes to see Timothy at Sanctuary and tells him that he's concerned about Timothy's influence on Nicole. Timothy says that he just wants to help everyone find love. He wonders what Bryce is afraid of.

Mark goes to the former cheesesteak restaurant but finds it abandoned.

Flosso's men blindfold Simon and Lloyd and take them out.

As Mark drives away, he remebers mentioning an eight ball and "crashing through" in his flashforward conversation with Lloyd, and that there was an eight-ball drawn on the wall. He turns the car around and crashes through the wall of the abandoned restaurant. Mark gets out and opens fire. One of Flosso's men runs out the back while the other one approaches the car. When he approaches the window, Mark kicks it out and knocks the man out. Meanwhile, Simon grabs a gun and shoots the fleeing man dead.

Afterward. the police clean up while Mark tells Lloyd that they were talking together in their flashforward. He demands answers from the scientist. Meanwhile, Simon is placed into the ambulance... and finds Flosso waiting for him. The man notes that if nothing else, they've convinced Lloyd that Simon isn't involved with the conspiracy. When Simon refuses to continue participating, Flosso warns that if he doesn't, he'll tell the authorities that Simon was Suspect Zero at the stadium in Detroit.

October 6

Simon is attending the funeral of his father along with his mother, brothers, and sister Annabelle. Simon attempts to comfort Annabelle and agrees to meet her later at their home. However, as the driver takes him away, Simon realizes they're not going to the airport. The driver explains that Simon has to meet with his boss and gives him a ticket to a baseball game in Detroit.

In Detroit, Simon calls his mysterious contact, D. Gibbons, who tells him that he's been a part of it since he's 13 and they've given him a lot of leeway. Gibbons tells Simon to get to his seat and wait before they run out of time. Gibbons watches him via the security monitors and tells him to eat a nearby bucket of popcorn. Inside is a case with a ring, and Gibbons tells Simon to put it on. Simon reluctantly does so and then watches as everyone in the stadium collapses. Gibbons then tells him to go to the nearest tunnel.

In the tunnel, Simon finds Flosso and the driver waiting for him. Flosso takes Simon's ring back and directs him inside.

The Present

Simon examines his injuries in the mirror of the hospital bedroom. Olivia calls him out to check on him and then turns him over to Janis. She informs Simon that he now officially detained.

Mark interrogates Lloyd while Stan, Demetri, and Vogel watch on the monitors. Vogel complains that Mark is a loose canon, but Stan points out that Mark managed to recover Lloyd on his own. Mark wonders why Lloyd didn't step forward with what he knew. Lloyd admits that he wasn't sure what the flashforward meant, given a drunk man told him there'd be another Blackout. Mark figures he's hiding something and keeps him detained for the time being.

As they leave the hospital, Simon tries to flirt with Janis and then starts having breathing problems. He explains he has a penicillin allergy and Janis runs to get help. As soon as she's gone, Simon gets up and walks away, smirking triumphantly.

Simon arrives at the Toronto airport and finds Janis and armed policemen ready to take him back. He asks her for 24 hours to deal with personal stuff in his family. Janis knows that Annabelle has run away via the police reports, and Simon wants to help find her. Janis calls Stan and says that she wants to give Simon the 24 hours, figuring he's up to something. Stan agrees but insists that she keep Simon on a tight leash. She puts an electronic tracker on him and they go to his family home. His mother and brothers are there, and admit that reporters are still hounding them after the revelation that Simon and NLAP were involved with the Blackout. They assume Janis is his secretary. Simon's mother explains that after her father's death, Annabelle was overwhelmed by the sadness at home and ran away. Simon admits that he was close to Annabelle and then goes to take a shower.

As Janis and Mrs. Campos look around Simon's room, Mrs. Campos explains that Simon was small for his age and had a hard time with the neighborhood bullies. One day, he beat up a bully with a lunchbox filled with rocks. The tracking signal cuts out as Simon covers it with tin foil, and Janis goes after him while Mrs. Campos notes that Simon never let anyone push him around and he always gets even. Janis discovers that Simon has slipped out the bathroom window.

Simon goes to the docks and meets with Phillip, an old friend. Phillip refuses to let him in until Simon offers him a rare album. They share a drink and Simon starts to explain, but Janis arrives and interrupts them. She notes that she tracked Simon's cellphone ercords and invites him to continue. Simon admits that Phillip is the only professor smarter than he is and asks if it was possible that a particle accelerator could have affected human consciousness. Phillips admits it's possible but can't come up with a way to protect humans from a second blackout. As they leave, Simon explains to Janis that Phillip mentored him and helped him design the mechanism seen in Somalia. He admits that he's afraid of what's happened... and what could still occur.

At the Campos home that night, Janis helps Mrs. Campos make dinner and admits that she spends most of her nights eating alone. As they discuss motherhood, the doorbell ring and Mrs. Campos explains that it's Simon's Uncle Teddy. Simon answers it and finds... Flosso. Simon isn't surprised and two men embrace while Flosso expresses his sympathy over Simon's kidnapping.

The family sits down to dinner and Simon starts drinking heavily. Flosso explains that he's Mrs. Campos' distant cousin and helped them move to Canada tomake sure Simon reached his full potential. Flosso admits he's never had children, but he has Simon and his brothers and sisters. Simon says the whole thing is a performance and insists that Flosso has no right to discuss his father.

October 6

At the stadium, Flosso explains that Simon helped them with the Blackout experiment even though he wasn't aware of it. They figure that someone will have to take the blame, and note that Simon was in Toronto for his father's funeral after he was "conveniently" shot in a hunting accident. Flosso tells Simon that a private plane will take Simon back to Toronto without a trace, and suggests he come up with something to tell people when they ask about his flashforward. People wake up outside and the driver escorts Simon back to the car. As they talk, Simon realizes the man killed his father, knocks him down, and chokes him to death, and realizes what story he can use for his flashforward.

The Present

Mrs. Campos gets a call from Annabelle. As everyone else runs to the phone, Flosso tells Simon that the call isn't for him. While Annabelle tells her mother she's at the New York Port Authority, Flosso shows Simon a cellphone transmission that demonstrates that Annabelle is reading the statement at gunpoint. He tells Simon that they need more from Simon than data, and invites him outside for a private conversation.

Outside, Simon wonders why Flosso and his people engineered the blackout, but Flosso says he's merely a middleman and it doesn't matter as long as Simon does what he's told. He then opens the trunk of his SUV and reveals Phillip inside, dead. Flosso informs Simon that if he doesn't cooperate, they'll start torturing Annabelle. Simon figures that he's bluffing since they want him alive, and shoves Flosso to the ground. He then applies pressure to the man's chest to induce cardiac arrest, and the bruises will look like failed CPR.Once Flosso dies, Simon informs the corpse that it's for his father and kicks him hard, and reminds him that he always gets even.
