An otherwise normal day becomes a life-changing event when every single person on Earth appears to have blacked out for 2 minutes, 17 seconds. To compound this, during The Event, each person had a dreamlike vision, apparently of their own future, of what was happening to them on April 29, 2010, at 10pm Pacific time, while they were blacked out.

When an elderly Nazi prisoner claims he can explain why the blackout lasted 137 seconds, Mark and Janis travel to Germany to see him and discover they have to pardon him in return for his information. Meanwhile, Demetri learns when and how he will die from a anonymous caller, and Aaron tries to learn the truth about his daughter's death by requesting an exhumation of the body.

Olivia and Bryce encounter a very upbeat patient who relates to them his flashforward. When a problem is found, he is scheduled for surgery, but Bryce realizes that an important piece of health information was contained in the patient's flashforward. Olivia, trying the inevitability of her own flashforward, resists acting on Bryce's revelation, and endangers the patient. Meanwhile, Demetri and Mark wind up at odds, with Demetri wanting to act directly somehow to prevent his own believed doom, while Mark realizes that Demetri's fears are driving his actions more than rational consideration. Nicole returns to work as the Benford's babysitter, but with a shocking revelation about her flashforward. And we discover some truly remarkable information regarding Mr. Simcoe.

The Senate Intelligence Committee holds a hearing to decide where to allocate funding in regards to investigations into The Event. The Committee, unfortunately, is headed by a Senator who has a very bad history with Stan. A key personal fact about Janis is revealed, and its effect with regard to her FlashForward becomes relevant. The investigations into the crow die-off in Somalia bears fruit. Stan pulls in a significant marker to get support. Olivia discovers a fact about Mark's FF that he withheld from her.

Aaron is met by a former army buddy of his late daughter's, and Demetri comes clean with his fiancee, Zoey, about his being a "Ghost", one of those without a Flash Forward. Nicole volunteers at Olivia's hospital, and, meeting Bryce, helps him to uncover certain details about his own Flash Forward. Al and Aaron connect to striking new information regarding their own Flash Forwards.

Aaron confronts his daughter Tracy regarding the details of her accident and disappearance, and Janis returns to FBI duty but, after Al's action and her own shooting, debates whether she should continue working or not.

The reasons for Bryce's former suicidal intentions are revealed, even as Bryce gets some clues in his search for the woman in his Flash Forward. Aaron expresses concerns, as well as guilt, over Tracy's behavior and situation. Mark finds out about the texts sent to Olivia regarding his drinking in his FF, and wonders who it was doing it. Those around Demetri discover some interesting revelations regarding the mysterious call he received regarding his impending demise.

Against Stan's orders, Mark and Demetri travel to Hong Kong in search of the woman claiming to have details regarding Demitri's murder. Lloyd forces Simon to hold a press conference, where Lloyd and his group acknowledge the possibility of their being responsible for The Event. The resulting fury puts both Lloyd and Simon in danger. Lloyd is concerned for the safety of Dylan, and Simon goes to the FBI for both protection and information, insisting that his group is not responsible. Meanwhile, Zoey realizes that her flashforward did not mean what she thought it meant.
