The Second Time Around - Recap

Porter and his sons walk along the park beach discussing Linda Granville, a champion water skier camping in the park. At Linda's [[trailer]], they meet her [[mother]]. The boys scurry off to meet Linda who's sunning on the beach. Linda is rude to the boys, and, when Sandy presents her portrait in a handmade frame, she glances at it with distaste and tosses the picture into the water. Flipper tosses the picture back to Linda. Linda tosses it back into the water. Flipper tosses it back to Linda. Sandy and Bud then spot a wheelchair in the shrubs and realize the reason for Linda's nastiness.

Back at the Ricks cottage, the boys perform their chores. Porter has gone to talk to Linda's mother. Bud warns Sandy storm warnings are being broadcast on the radio.

At Linda's campsite, Linda sits morosely on a dock watching boaters and water skiers having fun. Mrs. Granville greets Porter. Flipper tries to cheer Linda. She smiles and calls him a ham. Flipper does his tail walk.

Mrs. Granville tells Porter that Linda was injured while filming some water skiing publicity pictures. Mrs. Granville blames herself for pushing Linda to succeed. The doctors have given little concrete encouragement and Linda has ceased hoping or caring. Linda's current doctor wants to operate but cannot help Linda unless her spirits change.



Clouds gather threateningly and the Ricks family listens to storm warnings on the radio. Porter leaves at once to warn campers in the park to pack up and leave for town. The boys "batten down the hatches" at the cottage. The wind rises.

At Linda's campsite, Porter warns Mrs. Granville about the oncoming storm. Mrs. Granville says Linda won't leave. Porter talks to Linda. She says it will be exciting to see the storm. Porter says such an idea is suicide and tells her she should have a care for her mother. As Porter forcibly tries to move Linda to safety, the girl resists angrily. Mrs. Granville intervenes and tells Porter to leave.

At the cottage, Bud calls Flipper and warns him to go out to sea for safety's sake. Flipper heads out.

The storm rages. The Ricks listen to reports on the radio. Somewhere outside the cottage, they hear a car horn sending a distress signal. Porter and Sandy head out in response to the signal while telling Bud to remain at the radio.

At Linda's campsite they find Mrs. Granville has taken refuge from the storm in her car. Linda's trailer is overturned. Linda is trapped inside. With difficulty, Porter and Sandy rescue Linda and get both Granvilles to safety. Mrs. Granville apologizes to Porter. Linda admits she wouldn't leave. Porter reproves her sternly, telling her she could have caused her mother's death as well as her own.

Later, in the storm's aftermath, the Ricks help Mrs. Granville retrieve her car and tidy up the campsite. Linda sits glumly on the dock watching Flipper sport in the water. Flipper tries to playfully cheer her and, in doing so, becomes tangled in a net. Sandy comes upon Flipper and is furious that Linda is sitting by watching Flipper drown. Sandy dives in the water to save Flipper and calls for Linda. Linda dives into the water but is unable to help. She is overcome. Bud comes upon the scene and calls his father for help. Porter and Sandy bring the inconscious Linda to shore.

Later, as the Granvilles prepare to leave the park, Mrs. Granville thanks Porter for his help. Linda is cheerful and decides to keep Sandy's portrait after all. She believes her legs are getting better. Having come close to drowning, her will to live has been restored and her future looks bright. Porter urges her to see her doctor. Bud wants her to return to the park some day. Flipper bids goodbye with his tail walk.
