| Show FAQ | Who played Flipper Although Flipper is a male character, he was played on the tv show by a female dolphin named Suzy. Other female dolphins - Patty, Scottie, Squirt, and Cathy - were also called in occasionally. Female dolphins were chosen to play the role because they are relatively non-aggressive and thus less likely to have their skin marred by scars and scratches acquired in altercations with other dolphins. The five female dolphins performed all of Flipper's role except the famous tail walk, which none of them ever mastered completely. A male dolphin performed the tail walk. | Where was "Flipper" filmed Flipper was filmed in Miami at Greenwich Studios, (as Ivan Tors Studios), 12100 Ivan Tors Boulevard, Miami, Florida, USA. Nassau was occasionally a location. The show was produced in cooperation with Miami Seaquarium, an aquarium located on Virginia Key in Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida. | Was the television series based on a movie The television series was based on the 1963 film Flipper starring Chuck Conners and Luke Halpin. In 1964 a sequel was produced called Flipper's New Adventure. The sequel starred Brian Kelly as Porter Ricks and Luke Halpin as Sandy. Flipper series recurring guest stars Dan Chandler, Courtney Brown, and Ricou Browning also appeared in the sequel. The sequel is also known as Flipper and the Pirates. |
