Recap

Two men break into the Hennington Mental Health Institute in Boston and examine a patient, Joseph Slater. The leader does something with the back of Slater's head while asking him to describe the girl in the red dress in his delusions, a girl with flowers in her hair. The man takes out a bloody piece of white tissues and puts it in a nutrient jar. The other man gets a call from the Hybrid commander, Smith, telling them that someone is on the away. The second man goes out in the corridor and is spotted by an orderly, who calls in alert. The second man shoots him and warns their leader. The leader apologizes to Slater for leaving him with his skull open and departs with his assistant. A nurse comes in a minute later and discovers that the back of Slater's skull has been cut open and his brain is exposed...

Episode Quotes
Security Guard: Are you Dr. Bishop?
Walter: Yes. And I'm perfectly sane.

Peter: Are you really trying to tell us that he is one of the heads they stole? Fine. Let's say for a second you're right. Frozen heads don't just get up and walk into places. I mean, the dead don't rise out of their graves and perform midnight brain surgery.

Peter: Apparently Mr. Gordon thought he was the actor Sydney Greenstreet, and went around quoting Casablanca. That's funny.
Olivia: What?
Peter: He looks a lot more like Peter Lorre. That's a joke.

Peter: Maybe some Valium would help.
Walter: You know, I don't do Valium nearly enough. That's a good idea. I'll have 50 milligrams, please.
Dr. West: Well, that... that's quite a high dosage.
Walter: I have quite a high tolerance.

Olivia: So then how does Newton read them?
Peter: In theory, he shouldn't be able to. But in theory, he should still be a frozen head. So in the department of how to make impossible things possible, what would he need to do?

Olivia: You so much as twitch, and you won't have a head left to refreeze.

Walter: Peter... I have a terrible headache... and a sudden craving for chicken wings.

Cultural References
References to H.P. Lovecraft and the Re-Animator movies appear throughout:

* Dr. West is named after Dr. Herbert West, the character in Lovecraft's story "Dr. Herbert West: Reanimator," which was adapted into the movie Re-Animator (1985). In the movie, West was played by Jeffrey Combs.

* Patient Stuart Gordon is named after that movie's director, Stuart Gordon.

* Patient Deborah Crampton is named after actress Barbara Crampton, who appeared in the movie.

* The Dunwich Mental Hospital is named after Lovecraft's story "The Dunwich Horror.

"Dr. Simon Paris" is a reference to both Leonard Simon Nimoy, and the character he played on Mission: Impossible: The Amazing Paris.

Thomas Jerome Newton is named after David Bowie's alien in The Man Who Fell to Earth. In season one, a villain was named David Robert Jones: Bowie's real name.

The license plate of Olivia's SUV is 1C3P01: an easter egg nod of the hat to the robot in the Star Wars movies.
