Recap

In 1985, Walter addresses the military at their research headquarters in New York City. He shows them an advanced cell phone and informs them that they developed it by peering into another, parallel reality with technology ahead of their own. When they wonder how Walter obtained it, he explains that he peered into the other reality and duplicated the design. Episode Quotes
Walter: I've given him a name, Carla.
Dr. Carla Warren: Hmm.
Walter: "Walternate."

Walter: The Casimir Effect should produce a thinner, more porous region of space-time. I only need to affect the area for long enough to cross over to the other side with the vial of the cure. And... and then, of course, recreate the effect to cross back again.
Dr. Carla Warren: Walter, you're trying to create a wormhole into another universe?
Walter: Yes! I think I just said that.

Walter: It was the first hole, Olivia. The first breach. The first crack in a pattern of cracks, spaces between the worlds. And it's my fault.

Cultural References
In the alternate reality, Eric Stotlz went on to star in the Back to the Future movies as Marty McFly. In "our" reality, Stoltz was let go after six weeks and replaced by Michael J. Fox after director Robert Zemekis thought Stoltz wasn't funny enough.
