Jim Dixon (Enn Reitek) returns from working abroad to try his luck in London at the height of the "Swinging Sixties." He finds a job in publishing, later moving on to work for a film company. Initially living in lodgings, he eventually "graduates" to a flat of his own. Although he achieves some material success, Jim fails in his ambition to to get himself fully involved in the "permissive society".
