Futurama received its third Emmy Nomination (Outstanding Animated Programming for Programming Less Than One Hour) for this episode and it won, finally taking The Simpsons off of its seven year winning streak in this category.

The producers changed the show's opening in which a Planet Express rocket crashes into a giant TV screen. This scene was removed after the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. A few months later the scene was put back into the show's opening. This did not apply to East Coast airings of the episodes between late Sept. 2001-early April 2002 or any reruns of the episodes of this era.

Professor: You mustn't interfere with the past! Don't do anything that affects anything. Unless it turns out you were supposed to do it. In which case, for the love of God do not do it!
Fry: Got it.
Professor: If for example if you were to kill your grandfather, you'd cease to exist.
Fry: (gasps) But existing is basically all I do.

(On phone, receiving news of Enos' death)
Mildred: Killed? In an atomic blast? No sir, I'm afraid I don't take much solace in the fact that the implosion trigger functioned perfectly.

Fry: AAAH! It's impossible! I mean, if she's my grandmother, then who's my grandfather?!
Professor: Isn't is obvious?
(Fry shakes head)
Professor: YOU ARE!
Fry: Aaaah! Aaaaaah! AAAAAAAAAAH!
