The scene opens with Ned Stark, Sansa and Arya arriving in King’s Landing and are welcomed. Ned tells Jory to get Sansa and Arya settled in and goes inside. Jaime Lannister is there and Ned comments on Jaime’s armor and says that there isn’t a scratch on it. He gloats and says that people have tried to hit him, but have failed. Jaime talks about how King Targaryen killed Ned’s father and mother. Ned tells that Jaime stabbed the “Mad King” in the back and Jaime asks if he would have stabbed him in the belly, who he still give him such grief. Ned tells that Jaime served King Targaryen well when it was safe to serve. He walks in the court to meet Varys. Ned tells him to give prayers to the butcher’s boy instead of Joffrey. He says hello to Renly Baratheon and is introduced to Petyr Baelish. Petyr says that he has been waiting a while to meet Ned. He says that remembers that Petyr fought with his brother. Petyr says that he was interested in Ned’s wife when she was Catelyn Tulley back then. Ned greets Grand Maester Pycelle and says that it has been too long. Ned asks where the King is and Varys says that he gives the small matters to them to discuss.

Ned sits down and they discuss the tournament that the Lannisters want to have and they review how much it all will cost. Petyr says that they can borrow from the Lannisters and says that they already owe Lord Tyrion a lot and could ask for more. Ned is upset that the realm is almost bankrupt and denied the wish for a tournament. Ned says that he will talk to the King about this. Varys says that they serve at Ned’s pleasure now that he is the King’s Hand. Meanwhile, Queen Cersei Lannister patches up Prince Joffrey’s arm and tells that it is good to have scars. Joffrey says that he was a coward and allowed for Arya to disarm him and the dog bit him. She tells that Joffrey is to lie about how he got the scar. She tells that he has to marry Sansa, but doesn’t have to see her all the time except to make little princes and princesses. He says that he can do what he pleases when he is king. Joffrey tells that they need to double the Stark’s taxes and demand that they offer 10,000 men. Joffrey says that they can take over Winterfell if they refuse. Cersei puts common sense into Joffrey’s head and says that they have to wait for their time.
Back at King’s Landing, Arya is upset and says that she is practicing with the knife to kill Joffrey. She calls him a liar and calls Sansa a liar too. Ned comes in and gives Sansa a doll. However, she is ungrateful for it. Arya pulls out the sword that Jon gave her and Ned comes in and sees it. She tells that the sword is hers, but doesn’t tell him where she got it. He tells that ladies don’t play with swords and she tells that she doesn’t want to be a lady. Ned tells that the butcher’s boy was not her fault. He says that Sansa had to lie because she will be married to Joffrey one day. He says that winter is coming and they have to look after one another. He tells her that they have come to a dangerous place and can’t fight among themselves. He allows for Arya to keep the sword. Back in Winterfell, Bran sees a crow fly in and Old Nan tells him not to worry about it. Bran tells her not to tell her non-scary stories and so Old Nan talks about the White Walkers and scares him. Robb Stark comes in and interrupts the story. He tells that he wants to talk to Bran and asks him how he feels. He says that he still doesn’t remember anything. Robb says that Bran never falls and Robb confirms that Bran won’t walk and Bran says that he would rather be dead.
Catelyn Stark and Rodrik Cassel arrive in the capital and are told to follow soldiers. Forced to go with them, they are taken to Petyr. He welcomes her and she yells at him for bringing her to a whore house. He says that no one will look for her there. Varys comes in and says that it is a blessing to see her and says that he knew that she was coming. They show the dagger and Varys says that he doesn’t know whose dagger it is. Petyr laughs and says that the blade is his. However, he lost it to Tyrion Lannister. Meanwhile, Jon Snow practices at Castle Black and Allister Thorne tells the recruits to try to take down Jon. However, they all are unable to do it. Tyrion talks to Lord Commander Mormont about Jon and he says that a raven came for Ned Stark. At King’s Landing, Grand Maester comes up to Ned and gives him the note from the raven. Petyr asks if it is good news and tells him to come with him to share it with his wife. However, Ned doesn’t believe him until she pokes her head out.

Back at Castle Black, the recruits are not happy with Jon for beating them. Tyrion comes in and says that they have distinctive faces and tells that they can all be on spikes. They let go of Jon and Tyrion tells that just because they are forced there, doesn’t mean that they are worthless. Tyrion gives Jon information that Bran woke up. At the brothel, Petyr says that if Ned and Catelyn tell that the Lannisters are betrayers of the crown, they need to be certain. Jaime comes into Cersei’s chambers and she tells him that he is a fool for what he has done to Bran. Jaime tells her to calm down and asks what Bran has told them. She tells that he doesn’t remember. She tells that they need to fix things and Jaime says that if Bran talks, he will kill him and everyone until it is just her and him. Catelyn rides off and Ned tells her that he can’t do anything without proof. King Robert meets with Barristan Selmy and they talk about their first kills. King Robert remembers smashing a breastplate in of a person in the war. Robert makes fun of Lancel Lannister and asks why there is no more wine. He tells him to get more. Jaime comes in and Robert asks about his first kill. Jaime tells that he was 16-years-old. Robert asks what the “Mad King” say when he stabbed him in the back. Jaime says that he was saying the same thing he was shouting for hours, “Burn them all!”
Meanwhile, the Dorthraki riding to their home and Dany talks to Ser Jorah Mormont and asks what the Dorthraki do to their slaves. He says that the slaves were given to them from conquering cities. Dany tells Ser Jorah to tell the band to stop. He says that she is talking like a Queen, but she calls herself a Callisse. She is accosted by her brother, Viserys, and he says that she is not to give commands to him. He is held back by one of the Dorthraki with a whip around his throat. Dany tells him to let him go and Irri translates for Dany. He lets Viserys go and he demands that Ser Jorah kill the man who whipped him. However, they ride off. The man makes Viserys walk back to the band. Jon goes up on the Wall and meets Benjen Stark. He looks down at the 700 ft. drop. Benjen says that he is leaving to go fight and Jon offers to go with. However, Benjen tells him that he is not a Ranger yet and says that the Wall is his place until he earns his place as a Ranger. Tryrion talks to Gregor about things that they have eaten and Benjen comes in and asks if he has some nice stories to go back with to the brothels. Benjen tells the realities of who is at the Wall and that Tyrion is only getting fat on their suffering. However, Tyrion says that he likes the Night’s Watch, but doesn’t believe that Giants and White Walkers roam around and that the Wildlings are nothing. Benjen says that he knows what lies beyond the Wall.

Dany starts to learn the Dorthraki language and Irri tells that Dany is pregnant. Ser Jorah talks to the soldier that whipped Viserys. He tells that he heard about Ser Jorah’s father and says that he was great. Irri comes out and tells Ser Jorah that Dany is with child. Ser Jorah says that he needs to ride off and says that he will return. At Castle Black, the training continues and Jon teaches the new recruits while Tryion watches. Maester Aemon asks Tryrion if he survived a winter. He says that he has. He says that this winter will be long and Mormont says that they have caught more Wildlings and that Ned Stark cut off the survivor of the forest. They tell that they can’t properly patrol the other Castles and tells that they need help and that Tryion needs to talk to his sister. Later that night, Dany tells Khal Drogo that she is pregnant and that it is a boy. He asks how she knows and she says that she just does. Tryrion urinates on the edge of the wall like he said that he was going to. Jon tells that he hates to see Tryrion leave and asks him to tell Bran that he says hello. Tyrion leaves. The next day at King’s Landing, Arya goes up to her sword fight training instructor, Syrion Forel. He teaches her to fight and Ned watches. The look on his eyes tells that he is not happy that he has brought his children into something so dangerous that they have to learn to defend themselves, even his daughters. The episode ends.
