As night begins to set, Goliath and Xanatos remain in a heated battle, but it isn't long for Xanatos to tell Goliath that he had no intention of fighting. Xanatos simply wanted to ask if Goliath would be willing to be the Best Man for his wedding to Fox the following night.
When Goliath asks if Xanatos is joking or not, Xanatos simply replies, "Demona will be there, and she promises to be on her best behavior."
When Goliath tells the clan and Elisa, they all tell him he shouldn't go and that Demona & Xanatos are planning a trap. As the clan turns to stone for the day, Goliath continues to contemplate on whether he should go to Xanatos' wedding or not, and dreams about the wedding of Prince Malcolm & Princess Elena -- the first wedding he and Demona went to back in 975 AD . . . . | | There are no foreign summaries for this episode: Contribute |

Episode Notes |

Goliath still has feelings for Demona, but at the end of the episode he seems to get closure. | In the storeroom, where Goliath keeps the talismans, we can see for a glimpse the silhouette of Coldstone. | Shakespeare's influence: Xanatos's line "Oh, reason not the need" is a quote from the play King Lear (see Cultural Reference). | Xanatos is an Illuminatus. | The "Eye in the Pyramid" design on Xanatos's Illuminati pin is the symbol of the Ancient Illuminated Seers of Bavaria (the 'real life' Illuminati Society; see Cultural Reference). | The Archmage needs to get the Phoenix Gate, the Grimorum Arcanorum and the Eye of Odin to achieve the ultimate power. | It turns out that the time travelers that use the Phoenix Gate are unable to change history. | According to Greg Weisman, "the ending of this episode is a mistake that we couldn't get corrected in time for its first airing. That scene was supposed to be a flashback of Goliath and Demona embracing at the castle, and not at the Clock Tower." | It turns out that Demona and Hudson new about the massacre in "Awakening" before it happened, but couldn't do anything about it because history can't be changed. | Broadway and Lexington are absent in this episode. | Star Trek Voice Actors: W. Morgan Sheppard (Petros Xanatos) played Dr. Ira Graves in Star Trek: The Next Generation, a Klingon in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and Qatai in Star Trek: Voyager. |

Episode Quotes |
| |
Petros Xanatos: Don't you know it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding?
Xanatos: Fox and I make our own luck. | Xanatos: What do you think of the place?
Petros Xanatos: Why do you need all this?
Xanatos: Oh, reason not to need, father. I wanted it, so I took it. | Past-Demona: Take this token of my love. Cherish it always, as I will cherish my half. Upon this, I pledge my heart to you forever.
Past-Goliath: I accept your token, my angel of the night, and vow that you and I are one, now and forever. | Goliath: So you see, Huds--, uh, I mean, my mentor... I am not a creature of sorcery. I am a visitor from the future.
Past-Hudson: And I suppose you glided back in time on the wind.
Goliath: No! Some time in the future I attended, or will attend, the wedding of an enemy. And I was, uh, or will be, tricked into helping send us all back here by magic. I don't know what my enemy's purpose in this time, but I particularly fear for my younger self, and his angel love. I need your help to protect them from their future. | Xanatos: That's how I knew how to set this all up. I received instructions from myself last week. So you see, pop, I am indeed a self made man. | Demona: Yes, I am you, your future self. You know I speak the truth. I've come back to bring you a warning. This is your future. See the destruction. The death of our kind surrounds us. Your one true love is frozen in stone at night. The humans did this, and you can stop it! You hold the power in your hand. To use the Phoenix Gate, you have but to think of a place in time. Speak the incantation and you will be transported there. With it you can accomplish anything. Do not give it to the Archmage. Do not share it with-- Do not share it! Use it! Destroy all the humans! Rule the gargoyles! Rule the world! It's all within your grasp! | Demona: You must know I'm right. Can't you see? I am what you will become.
Past-Demona: I will never be like you!
Demona: I do not wish to hurt you.
Past-Demona: And I do not wish to be you! | Goliath: Do not worry. Do not wait or look for this catastrophe. Live in the moment. Attend the petty jealousies and angers that prey upon your heart. Fortify yourself with love and trust, and you need not fear this future. But most of all, fulfill the vows of love you make, for they can surely save you.
Past-Demona: I shall. You have my oath.
Goliath: I had hers once, too. | Goliath: If I didn't fear the damage you would do to the time stream, I'd gladly leave you here.
Xanatos: But you won't because you didn't. Time travel's funny that way. | Demona: You may have prevented me from altering the past. But you failed, too. You see, I have clear memories of your little inspirational about keeping my vows of love. I never forgot it, and it changed nothing. Obviously, history is immutable.
Goliath: More's the pity. | Demona: I'm only here to keep Xanatos as an ally. I neither know nor care why you are here.
Goliath: This is not the first wedding we've attended.
Demona: I'm not in the mood to reminisce. |

Episode Goofs |
| |
When Goliath and Demona hold their pieces of the Phoenix Gate together, the fragments join to reform the complete artifact. A moment later as Demona mocks Goliath, she is clearly holding two separate pieces again. | "Deslegrate muri tempi et intervalia" is supposed to mean 'Burn down walls of time and space.' However, the correct Latin sentence is "Deflagrate muros temporis et intervalia". | After Goliath says, "More's the pity," to Demona, the next scene is a long shot and Goliath is shown leaving the group of travellers. Demona is absent from the shot when she shouldn't be since she hadn't moved from her position in the last shot that showed her. | In the end credits, the producers failed to credit Jeff Glen Bennett for Brooklyn even though the gargoyle spoke at the end of the episode. Jeff Glen Bennett is only credited for voicing Owen. |

Xanatos: Oh, reason not the need, father.
In King Lear the line is uttered by the King to his daughters, while interestingly in this episode, it is said by Xanatos to his father. This Shakespearean tragedy centers on King Lear, the aging king of Britain, who decides to resign from the throne and divide his kingdom among his three daughters. Lear delivers this line after he has been defeated by the cruelties of Goneril and Regan (two of his daughters). This line and subsequent statements mean that human beings wouldn’t differ from animals if they didn’t need anything else but the basic necessities of life to be happy. | Eye in the Pyramid
The "Eye in the Pyramid" design on Xanatos's Illuminati pin is the symbol of the Ancient Illuminated Seers of Bavaria. This one-eyed pyramid shows up on the Great Seal of the United States and the back of the one-dollar bill (see here), and according to the conspiracy theory mythology, it indicates that there was some connection between the Illuminati and the Founding Fathers.
