  Episode Summary
Max must locate a KAOS spy ring. Coincidentally, the ring's headquarters is in a shoe store where Max purchases shoes. Agents there believe they've been discovered and dispatch one of their number to kill Max. Complicating the case is the arrival of Max's aunt and uncle who do not know and must not learn that their nephew is a spy. Max, 99, and the unwilling Victor must concoct an elaborate charade with each side struggling behind the scenes for the upper hand.

  Episode Quotes
Victor: There’s only one man I know of who has a telephone concealed in his shoe. That’s a Control agent by the name of... Maxwell Smart!

Victor: You stay here and don’t worry. I’ll get Smart.

The Chief: Max! What happened to you?
Max: Some guy tried to run me down with a car. Luckily I jumped aside in the nick of time and leaped for his running board.
The Chief: What happened?
Max: They don’t make running boards any more.

Max: I demand the Cone of Silence
The Chief: (pained) Max, do we have to?
Max: Well, with vital information like this of course we have to, Chief!
The Chief: Okay, you win, Max. (via intercom) Hodgkins, lower the Cone of Silence.
(The Cone of Silence descends.)
The Chief: What did you find out?
Max: Nothing.
The Chief: (irritated, via intercom) Hodgkins, raise the Cone of Silence!

The Chief: Max, why do you always have to live by the rules?
Max: Because Rule 27 says that you must always live by the rules of the...
The Chief: Alright, never mind. Someday, I’ll learn...

(Max’s uncle has set off the desk trap and the seltzer bottle trap.)
Aunt Bertha: What do you do for a living now, Maxwell?
Uncle Abner: I think he designs amusement parks.

(Max and Victor are trapped in a cargo net. Uncle Abner comes down the stairs.)
Uncle Abner: Max, can I move your clothes from one side of the closet to the other?
Max: Go right ahead, Uncle Abner.
Uncle Abner: Thank you.
Max: Uncle Abner, aren’t you going to ask about this?
(Uncle Abner just shakes his head.)

Max: Alright, Victor, you and I are going down town. Get your hands up and don’t move. The little game is over.
Aunt Bertha: (to 99 as they descend the stairs) Don’t you argue with me!
Max: The game is on again! Put your hands down and don’t move!

Uncle Abner: Max, your shoe is ringing!
Max: Take a message, Uncle Abner!

Max: Hello, Chief? This is Max. Their headquarters is in Larsen’s Shoe Store. Right, Chief. The information was written in code on the inside of the shoes. As a matter of fact, when my Uncle Abner leaves the store, he’ll be wearing the plans of a deadly sea to air missile...

(Aunt Bertha has read that the shoe store where Max worked was a front for enemy spies. She is concerned about her nephew's future because she believe's he's unemployed.)
Aunt Bertha: I know! Why don’t you buy the shoe store?
Uncle Abner: That’s not a bad idea...
Aunt Bertha: And Maxwell can run it for you.
Uncle Abner: That’s not a good idea...
