Motoko’s friend Kurutan, who works as a nurse in a hospital, asks her to help her sort out a tricky situation. One of Kurutan's charges is a little girl, who needed a new heart. The girl, Moe, was fortunate enough to receive a new heart from a donor instead of a mechanical one. For the little girl and her parents, it all seemed to good to be true. Unfortunately, it is too good to be true. | | There are no foreign summaries for this episode: Contribute |

Kurutan's Discussion with Motoko: "JUNK JUNGLE"
Kurutan's comment to Motoko that she hasn't even bothered to come over when Kurutan has asked is a reference to the 1991 Ghost in the Shell manga by Shirō Masamune in the chapter entitled "JUNK JUNGLE". | Meditech: "CIRCUIT WEAPON"
Meditech, the human organ company that grows human compatible organs in pigs, is mentioned in Chapter 3, entitled "CIRCUIT WEAPON", from the 2001 Ghost in the Shell: Man-Machine Interface manga by Shirō Masamune. | Iwasaki's body: "ROBOT RONDO"
Meditech CEO Iwasaki is encased within a Jameson body, which was first introduced in Shirō Masamune's 1991 manga Ghost in the Shell in Chapter 6 - "ROBOT RONDO". | Iwasaki's Twang: 関西弁
Motoko's English voice actress says that Meditech CEO Iwasaki is, "[f]orcing that lame Texan accent." On the DVD's Japanese audio track, Motoko's seiyuu says that Iwasaki is using, "[t]hat lousy Kansai accent." Kansai, 関西 or "Gateway to the West", is a region located southwest of Tōkyō on Japan's main island of Honshū. It is also referred to as the Kinki region, 近畿 or "Former Capital". Kansai-ben, 関西弁 or Kansai dialect, is a distinct accent within Japan. The dialect gives the Japanese language a more drawn out sound than the other dialects within Japan. The irony of Motoko's statement is that New Port City itself is located within the Kansai region (see Cultural References Section in "SCANDAL"). The Kansai region's three main cities are the former capital of Kyōto, Kōbe, and Ōsaka. | Mateba: Ghost in the Shell
Togusa uses his Mateba to fire a tracer round at the back of the hospital interns' car, much like he did in Mamoru Oshii's 1995 movie Ghost in the Shell. | The Punch: "SUPER SPARTAN", "JUNK JUNGLE".
Motoko's hack of Batou in order to "defeat" him is a reference to the 1991 Ghost in the Shell manga by Shirō Masamune. Motoko does this hack in chapters 2 and 3, "SUPER SPARTAN" and "JUNK JUNGLE", respectively. |
