Well what should we call this one "When Saito met Major"? It would be romantic if you're a freak Goth perhaps. Anyway this was one of many breaks from the storyline the show took. I love hearing about the world wars and the background of the characters. On tv.com one guy was complaining about how dumb the Europeans were and they needed some level headed Japanese to straighten them out. Who cares it was a good episode and xenophobia is an anime core value so why b***h?

It's definitely good to see the history of the next two World Wars discussed. Before this episode, there were only bits and pieces to go on. I think that they really built up some good suspense with the history. After all, the history of these wars were not even fleshed out when Shirou Masamune first wrote the manga back in 1989. The Japanese GitS fan had to wait fifteen years to learn the back story of the World Wars! Since the manga was not released in North America until the mid-90's, the US fan didn't have to wait that long...only about 11 years lol.

It was a good "how they met" sort of episode. What's often overlooked is that Saito starts out his conversation by talking about the only person who truly frightened him. That was a pretty revealing statement on how he first felt about the Major.

It was a bit funny seeing a less experienced Batou. However, after seeing the events of "THIS SIDE OF JUSTICE" it's sort of implied that Batou may have had more experience then it appears since he apparently joined them after he had already been in the Rangers (or maybe was a part of their team because he was a Ranger) since he already had those special eyes of his.
