Is the series related to the events of the 1995 movie?
A common mistake that people make about Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is that it is a sequel to the Ghost in the Shell movie. GitS:SAC does takes place in the years proceeding the events of the 1995 movie (2029 A.D.). However, it is set in an alternate universe. GitS:SAC is an entirely new creation by Shirō Masamune.
