After rewatching some season 7 episodes, I have to say this is one of my least favorite of the season. The plot was a bit scattered, especially the scenes where Marty was involved. He returns, he talks to Rory, which pisses off his current girlfriend, and then he’s not seen again. That entire part of the episode seemed like the writers were trying to create some unnecessary drama and nothing more.
And then there’s Lorelai and Chris in Paris. The big restaurant proposal was a bit cheesy, at best. That and it doesn’t seem like Lorelai to hop right into a commitment. Sure it’s Paris and it’s Chris, but in 6 seasons, she’s shown very little desire to commit to him fully. She’s always been rational about their relationship, but now she seems to have no second thoughts whatsoever.
I did, however, enjoy the scenes with Mrs. Kim moving in with Lane and Zach. I do like the whole Lane-Zach pregnancy storyline. Too bad we don’t get to see more of that.
All in all, not the best episode, and pretty much a complete let-down after all the hype the so called “proposal episode” was given before it originally aired. The Paris plot was one big cliché, the Marty-Rory plot was completely scattered, and the only redeeming quality the episode even had was the Lane-Zach-Mrs. Kim development. Overall: 6/10
