Farewell, My Pet - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Lorelai, Rory and Emily are waking with Richard around the hospital. Emily is catching Richard up on all of the social events and gossip that he’s missed. Richard talks to Rory about the class that he taught and Rory tells everyone that she wants to spend the next week with Richard in the hospital and return to Yale the following week. Everyone tells her that it’s a bad idea and Lorelai talks her into going back this week.

At the inn, Michel has Paw-Paw since he and Paw-Paw are mourning Chin-Chin’s death the night before. Lorelai suggests that Michel have a memorial for his passed pet. Michel thinks it’s a good idea and ropes Lorelai and Sookie into planning the event for him.

At Yale, Paris talks to Rory about how she’s not keeping up with the schedule and how Paris continued with their schedule without her. Rory finds a package in their apartment from Logan and opens it to find a care package full of coffee beans and a stress ball. Paris tells Rory that she’s changed Logan, and then suggests that they get Logan and Doyle tattoos to brand them.

Michel continues mourning his pet’s death and sits Lorelai and Sookie down to go over their plan for the memorial. However, neither of them actually has any ideas and end up throwing out ideas until Michel comes up with one of his own. Michel mentions the food and Lorelai leaves since food is Sookie’s area of expertise. Christopher stops by the inn to talk to Lorelai and they fight over Christopher’s lack of support during Richard’s medical crisis. They agree to discuss their differences later. Lorelai and Rory talk over the phone and Rory tells Lorelai she knows her relationship with Christopher is on the rocks, despite Lorelai trying to convince her that everything is okay between them. Rory tells Lorelai she’s on her side no matter what.

Rory goes to the class that Richard was teaching before his heart attack. There she meets the new professor, Professor Culbertson. Rory is obviously flustered as they talk.

Lorelai arrives home after work and she and Christopher continue their fight from earlier. Christopher tells Lorelai about the fight he had with Luke and how he doesn’t think their marriage can go on. In the middle of their fight, Christopher leaves to pick up Gigi.

Michel continues to keep pressuring Lorelai for memorial plans, but Lorelai, stressed from her argument with Christopher tells Michel to back off.

At the Yale bookstore, Paris and Rory shop for the books that she’ll need for the semester. There, Rory runs into Professor Culbertson and is once again flustered as they talk. Paris notices, but Rory tries to brush it off as nothing.

At the inn, Lorelai and Sookie discuss Lorelai’s situation with Christopher and Lorelai says that she’s going to cut Luke out of her life in order to save her relationship with Christopher. But Sookie asks Lorelai that if Luke had never been in the picture, would she still be with Christopher? Lorelai can’t find an answer to the question.

Lorelai takes Michel to the music store to show him the plans that Zach has made for the music. However, the song that Zach had chosen doesn’t go over well with Michel. Lorelai randomly throws out song titles before she comes across one that Michel likes – “My Heart Will Go On”, which was one of Chin-Chin’s favorite songs.

Logan stops by Rory’s apartment to check up on her. Rory admits to him that she thinks she has a crush on Professor Culbertson. Logan tells her that it’s just a crush and he’s had other crushes too. He tells her that he’s never acted on the crushes because he’s in love with Rory, not them. Rory says she loves him too and they kiss.

At the memorial, Zach plays “My Heart Will Go On” and people from all over the town come to pay their respects to Chin-Chin. The camera pans the crowd, who are all saddened, as the song plays.

Lorelai returns home from the memorial and she and Christopher discuss their marriage. She tells him that it’s not just Luke and how Christopher’s always been a possibility for her, but she jumped and found out that he’s not the possibility. Christopher agrees, saying he should have known when it took 20 years for Lorelai to agree to marry him. Lorelai tells him that he’s the man she wants to want and wishes that he could be the one. Christopher holds Lorelai’s hand as she cries.
